I mowed my driveway today.
And the entire time I was doing it, I was thinking of how odd it was to be mowing a driveway.
You see, leaves have a nasty habit of becoming unattached from their trees at this time of year. DH was coming home with a pickup truck full of wood. As this involves bring the truck up the driveway onto the lawn and the place where the splitter is stashed - there were no cars on the driveway. While I was waiting for him I thought about all the leaves. I could have just raked, but DH recently acquired a self-bagging, mulching lawnmower. He did the lawn 2 weeks ago and there was nothing left but a tidy pile of leaf bits. These breakdown beautifully and become a lovely mulch for my garden beds. How do I know they are lovely mulch? Because of the profusion of earthworms I find in the pile.
So I got out the lawnmower and mowed the driveway while it was clear of cars. It was leaf free for about 15 minutes before a gust of wind brought new arrivals.
Sysiphus ain't got nothing on me this time of year.
