There are past studies that showed large swathes of the Yucatan only had grass pollen in the lake sediments during the Terminal Classical Mayan period. It'd imply huge chunks of the Yucatan were stripped of forest.

They, uh, didn't live in harmony with nature. Just like Chaco.
