When people talk about Toronto culture I always remember that KitH sketch in which Bruce McCulloch swaggers into town identifying himself as "the Cincinnati Kiiiiiid", and demanding to meet the Toronto Kid. Scott Thompson shows up as the Toronto Kid, dressed in Leafs colors. The Cincinnati Kid hawks and spits on the Toronto Kid's shoes. The Toronto Kid hawks and swallows, then says "We like to keep our city clean, eh?"

Toronto has this collective attitude that the mythical They are watching and judging and that we have to perform to please Them, and if we find favour in Their eyes, then we will be given a magical sash that says World Class City.

This leads to anyone who is not considered world-class-worthy being thrown under the bus, and *that* is a real problem.
