Begging for prayers and other positive thoughts this week

Turns out Mom's good news last month was "qualified" good news - she's going back to the hospital on Tuesday to get something else cut out. The good news is they (Mom and her doctors) are feeling positive. Bad news is that there are very few cases like hers - just two last year. So she gets lots of attention by default. But she is at Dana Farber so if anyone knows how to take care of her, they do. Times like this when I really wish I was obscenely rich. I'd hire a nurse to explain what soft tissue sarcoma is to me, and get Mom into the "VIP" section of the hospital (where they stick visiting foreign princes from Russia, Central America, and Long Island). Every room is a suite, so their family can stay with the patient. (It's only $800 extra per night, but the care is the same as the regular hospital. Except your neighbors probably asked the concierge to hire them a few private duty nurses, too. Hospital administration should really throw a few in when you buy the hospital a new wing, along with a spiffy Thank You balloon bouquet.)

I'm full of ideas for what I need to do next week, but I need to stay focused.. She wants us to visit, no matter how loopy she gets, so we'll pencil that in as the treatments allow. I want the house to be easy for her to manage, so the little tasks need to be done and cleaned up before she gets home (no trippy rugs, lots of easy to reach blankets and pillows and clear places to lie down or sit comfortably). Who am I kidding - every comfortable seat is claimed by dogs, and shooing them away is a tripping hazard. (But they are fun to hang out with when you are sick.)

Must stay positive - no bad vibes! Mom will get through this next week, and the chemo, and be well by 2014. I have a great job which will give me flex time to take care of her, and great kids who can help, too. And my family can't wait to come visit. It will be good. We just need to ride out the next few weeks and it all will be smooth sailing. I wish we were all on a Camino right now. That would be fun.
