I've reluctantly come to except that the world will always be flawed in many ways, but as for becoming a hippy, well... The only two things I have in common with hippies is long hair and a large dissatisfaction with the current establishment. Otherwise, I prefer to bathe daily, eat meat, protest violently, and avoid marijuana, tie-dye, organic foods, and political opposition expressed through song, poetry, or any other form of art, but that's several other issues I'd rather save for another time.
At any rate, I doubt most of our country is intelligent enough to "snap" from its current state. They learn to accept the status quo, and they conform readily to social norms, except when hedonism is the other option, but, again, another story for another time, but before I move on, I must mention that much of that story, as Chris and I have discussed many times at various hours after two in the morning, resembles the story of the decline of Rome. On another relevant note, we've also decided in similarly timed conversations that we would prefer our castle be built by a lake, with bits here and there extending into the lake.
Forgive me for being so cynical about the state of our country, but the fact is, any improvement would prove temporary, eventually regressing to the current state. I imagine there would be some hope of reshaping society, but I very much doubt it could be successfully accomplished at a rate greater than that at which we are declining.
