Jenni's Reviewing Squad

I just got back from seeing "A Scanner, Darkly" with my friend Chris. I'd really suggest people see this movie -- it's really pretty thought-provoking. It's all about drugs and drug abuse, with a bit of conspiracy twisted in. It's set in the US a few years from now and (strangely enough) is done as an animated feature. It's got some definite scifi trends (after all, it's based strongly on a story by Philip K Dick), but really it's not a scifi story. So go take a look!

The book part of this review is on "Time's Eye" by Arthur C Clarke and Stephen Baxter. I'm about 90% through now (in two days...) and it's absolutely engrossing. And mind you, that's coming from a girl who gave up on Clarke back at the end of high school, because he got annoying. This is much better than most of his stuff (that I've read, at least). Basically, the world gets chopped up in time, and reformed with a chunk of territory from "the present" juxtaposed with a chunk from the 1300s, next to a chunk from 300BC, beside a chunk from the last ice age. At this point in the book, I still don't know WHY this happened yet, but the way it was put together was rather intriguing. And the characters are excellent. For those scifi lovers, it's worth renting from the library.

I think that's about it. Jenni's Reviewing Squad, signing off!
