Today (just an hour ago or so) I went to the new outdoor pool on campus. WOW! I had expected a neat and clean, boring lap-swimming pool. No! Well, okay, there's one of those, and it looks pretty much like what you'd expect. But there are also two other pools for "playing" in (as opposed to working out). One is sort of kidney-shaped and has two basketball hoops and a volleyball net (and balls nearby). It's about a meter deep. The other's a bit deeper -- I had to stand on my tiptoes in the middle -- and is just a nice, big, non-rectangular pool for fooling around in. It's got chairs by the edge which are on a little ledge so that your feet can stay in the water even while you're reclining (and studying or something, if you so desire). VERY NICE. I was really impressed! True, it took them about 5 years to actually BUILD the dang thing, but it really is lovely. And it's all surrounded by trees (including full-grown palm trees!) and flowers, which make it feel like it's not really in the center of noisy, busy campus. I think more than anything, I'm just stunned that the university managed to do such a nice job on something! ...Wonder how much they raised tuition to manage it?
