Sacred Lyrics

I just wrote a poem for my friend Lucinda. She's an organist and for her composition class, she has to make a song using the lyrics of a poem. She wanted to write something practical for a church organist, something sacred, and we couldn't find any good poems that really fit. So I wrote one instead. That was sort of fun. It really flowed easily, and I think a lot of it had to do with the motivation of actually having a good REASON to write the poem, you know? Like there was an immediate purpose to it. Also, it turned out pretty well. Hopefully Lucinda will do a good job on the choir composition, since if she does, we can probably get my church choir to sing it for her. That'd be fun for me (and Lucinda), but also really, really good experience and connection-making for Lucinda (since my director is well-aquainted with the Austin sacred music scene). Plus, it would be kind of neat to have written the lyrics for a piece a whole choir performs. So I'm hoping all goes well and she likes the poem and writes a gorgeous piece of music!
