Geology thingies...

This month the theme for Accretionary Wedge #35 is What's Your Favorite Geology Word?, being hosted by the lovely Evelyn at Georney's.

Hmmmm And just what do you think that word might be?

I blame my mother - she bought me the books,
At London's museum - we'd stopped for a look
And one little glance was all that it took
And now I'm in love with volcanoes.

We came back to Aussie, to Uni she flew
And started to follow an earth-science crew
And people said tectonic plates were the clue
For why there are all these volcanoes.

We had lovely books with bright pictures and facts
Of what sort of lava came out of the cracks
And why this was something that Australia lacks -
A pile of hot, active volcanoes.

I flew to Hawaii, went tramping the flows
And felt and heard rumbles and followed my nose,
Talked my way into where scientists go,
To find out about more volcanoes.

I watch every special, I know all the shots
That movie producers will use in the spots
Where mountains are steaming and getting quite hot
And showing that they are volcanoes.

My family's eyes all glaze over as soon
As I start to sing my "volcano nut" tune
And I know they think that I am such a loon
To be so obsessed with volcanoes.

So if you were asking my favourite word
That I might have read or perhaps I once heard
That had a geology meaning inferred,
I think that it might be
I know that it will be
I state that it must be
Volcano.

(I almost put "Porphyry" as the last word, but then I couldn't bring myself to do it :-)

Yeah, like I could resist writing a piece of doggerel.

poetry, geology
