The Legacy of Ancient Lake Modoc: A Historical Geography if the Klamath Lakes Basin

Dicken & Dicken 1985

A small booklet describing the basic geology of the Klamath Basin. I was hoping it would have gone into more detail on the history of Lake Modoc itself, but Dickens has another book out that will cover that. The value of this book is its succinct descriptions of the basin and its sub basins overall, the types of bedrock and sediments present, and the geographic layout of the region. It also discusses the drainage system and the locations and discharge inputs of various streams in the area. Dickens then moves into the historical land use for the rest of the pamphlet, which is interesting and may inform on how the geomorphology has altered since intensive farming and ranching began when Europeans arrived. The earliest cultures also left a distinct mark on the region, but Dickens does not go into those histories very much in this booklet.
