Author Note: So, in light of the Supernatural premier, I feel like I need to write some Destiel angst. So yeah, this has spoilers for 7x01 - Meet the New Boss. This was inspired by the song Broken by Lifehouse and the title was snatched from it.
Disclaimer: I don't own the boys or the song, but I do own my Tumblr dammit!
Castiel was screaming.
He saw Dean and Bobby fly across the room and everything in him broke.
This creature, the Leviathan, was going to destroy everything even more than he himself had already done.
So he started screaming. He raged with everything he still had.
But it was no use. The Leviathan only laughed and sauntered away from the two injured men, intent on causing chaos elsewhere.
This was when Castiel started to cry.
For a fleeting moment her though that it was going to be ok. That he and Dean could fix their fractured relationship, ruined by time and their arrogance and their refusal to ask the other for help. But then he felt the Leviathan within him and it all became stunningly clear. Cas was never going to get the chance to prove how sorry he really was. He was never again going to feel Dean's arms wrap around him in one of those hugs that the hunter swore wasn't a hug. He wouldn't be on the receiving end of one of the hunter's shy smiles when Cas did something irrevocably human again.
He would never feel Dean's lips on his again.
This was endgame for Castiel.
It killed him when he pushed Dean and Bobby away, but he had to save them. Even if he died, they had to live. The angel would settle for nothing less.
But of course Dean had to stay there with him.
After all of the heartache and pain that they had put each other through this past year, Dean chose to stay. Cas wanted to cry right then and there. Dean chose to stay. In that moment, all of the broken bonds between them were seemingly repaired. All because Dean chose to stay when he could've ran like Castiel told him too.
Then the Leviathan took full control and it was all over.
And all Castiel can do is hold on. He's barely there, but he's STILL there. And he's not giving up. Dean didn't leave when he told him too, so why would he give up that easily?
He'll find his way home again. He always does.
