I have recently become quite fond of exploring abandoned places. Not only are they beautiful and inspiring for photography, but they are also a little creepy sometimes! It is mesmerizing to think of the lives that once lived in this house or the people who worked in that warehouse. I can't seem to make it out alone, but I would love to continue on my adventures with someone else.
Here is a list I have compiled of abandoned places in the area from searching the internet for several hours:
Austin (and surrounding areas)
-Abandoned Cotton Mill (Downtown Pflugerville- right off of 1825/Pecan St. behind El Rincon) -easy access
-Furniture Warehouse (south of the corner of Burnet and Braker near old railroad spur) -easy access, possible homeless
-Abandoned Mini Golf (Behind Super HEB on Riverside and Pleasant Valley) -easy access, friendly neighbors
-Cotton Gin (halfway between Lockhard and Austin 1/2 block from the main T, SW corner, next to one of the Neiderwalk city administration buildings) -easy access, great pictures
-Austin State School (Farm Colony Building on Crockett St.) -moderate to hard access, occasional guard, some of property still in use
-Abandoned Manor (right off of 290E at the 290 cafe) -nothing known
San Antonio
-Birdsong Peanuts (200 South Transportation Drive) -moderate access, boarded windows, fence, possible homeless
-Charter Real Behavioral Heath Systems (8550 Huebner Rd.) -moderate access, occasional guard
I have already been to three areas in Austin.
1) Abandoned House in South Austin -easy access, mold, some homeless but not during the day
2) Water Systems Offices off Caesar Chavez on Town Lake -outside of building makes for a beautiful view of town lake, inside access is possible through windows, high traffic area
3) City of Austin Electric Plant -impossible access, security cameras and high barbed wire fences
I'll make other posts to show pictures from the three places above.
I'd love to go to any of the places in Austin or San Antonio. Obviously, I'd like to attempt San Antonio in one day. Anyone up for it, please let me know. It would be a plus to do modeling in these places, too. I'd likely wear lolita, but any styles are fine. These places are so beautiful that they have more to say than any outfit. ++Also, if you have seen any abandoned places within the last year, please let me know so I can add it to the list. Thanks~!
