Not a whole heck of a lot to report here.. on my lunch break @ the moment( I took early lunch today, let the teacher's aide do do the later one), NOT looking forward to the 4 hrs of class I have tonight after work(Educational Concepts & Theory III, boring as all hell)
Right now I'm wishing for a time machine, so I could go back, oh 12 years ago, and take advantage of the opportunity I had to acutally be a full time college student, and not doing the evening stuff... that prolongs the degree by years instead of months. I'm still waiting on the department head of Education for my college to either approve or veto my doing student teaching @ the place where I teach( I teach kindergarden @ a private school & am going for my Elementary Ed degree) and I do wish they'd hurry up.
NOT looking forward to Valentine's Day since I've just broken up with my bf of 6 months( we were both @ fault, and I'll admit it, but he's 40 and acting like a 15 year old over something that was said and done. and that fact that he thought I was spending more time w/my friends than him.).. He's been coming in and out of my life for the past year and a half and we FINALLY started dating towards the end of the summer.. not sure what's going to happen, but I do know that with everything else I've got on my plate( work, school, upcoming eye surgery in a few months, my mother's ill health and the recent unexpected death of my uncle) I don't need teenage hystrionics!
I wonder if I'm genetically programmed to date unstable men or something!
So a couple of my girlfriends and I are celebrating Valentine's Day weekend by doing a roadtrip and staying over in Atlantic City Sun/Mon-we're all in the education field and all off Mon for President's Day) ... It's a man free night, and who knows what may happen. If we're energetic, we might cross over to Philly and do some sightseeing there( I'll be dragging everyone to the historic district for sure! )
Oh one thing that is gonna be a bit fun- Tomorrow I have to dress up in my 18th c reenacting garb and do a wee bit of a presentation for the 4-6 year olds at my school( yes they are actually teaching them a bit of history). It's basically a very very child-friendly 10=15 minute thing, about what a woman in the 18th c would do and how kids lived.
A friend of mine from one of my units is doing the GW thing with me( he's portrayed GW @ various reenactments). He's bringing in some samples of historical toys( those little ball and cup things, rag dolls, ect) that 18th c children would have played with, but of course can't bring in the wooden swords and muskets that boys would have taken pleasure in.. he IS bringing in some examples of toy soldiers..
I have a similar living history presentation to do in April, for a friend's 5th grade class. They're going to be studying the Rev War @ that time, and once again my friend and I are doing a demo..for that, however, he got permission to bring in his Charleville musket( unloaded of course).. I'm still prepairing my part of the presentation though.
This is the part of living history/reenacting I love the most...watching the kids eyes light up when we are in character, hearing their questions, and hoping that, just as I was inspired by living history, that I can light a flame of interest in at least one of them.
Speaking of history, today is Lincoln's 200th birthday..
