The Keepintime project initially brought notable old school LA session drummers Roy Porter, Earl Palmer, Paul Humphrey, and James Gadson together with prominent new school turntablists Babu, J.Rocc, and Cut Chemist for a photo shoot and rap session about the drummers' highly regarded (and often sampled) material. But that meeting culminated in a historical live recording session and show. The new DVD Keepintime: A Live Recording, directed by distinguished artist and photographer B+, includes the original 13-minute documentary capturing the seminal meeting, the 53-minute film of the subsequent live performance, audio commentary with the drummers, the video for DJ Shadow's "Midnight in a Perfect World," and loads of supplementary photos, videos, and essays. An accompanying CD includes the audio separates used in making the film remixed by an all-star cast of producers including Charlie Dark, Ammoncontact, Madlib, DJ Shadow, King Britt, Nobody, and Daedelus. If, as stated by noted keyboardist and producer Ben Sidran, "The musician is the document," then Keepintime: A Live Recording is the essential, overstuffed manila folder you've been searching for.
