"So, what kind of music do you play?" she asked me.
"Um...wow, I really don't know. A bit of everything." I'm always at a loss for words when it comes to describing what I play. "Progressive folk rock?"
And it doesn't irritate me when I'm asked to further explain. A delicate piece of music that I play can easily be transformed into a dramatic rock workout in the blink of an eye. People will see this happen when I finally present the material in a live setting.
Anyway...I am pleased to report that the CD is finally mixed. The cover art, or lack thereof, is the major holdup. I'm hoping K and I can get another shoot in really soon. Barring that, I may have to get out and do it myself, but I'm definitely using her photography. Once that's done, I can submit everything to the production house.
Oh. Who is "she?"
M is a friend of Ryan's whom I met last night. We sat together during his acoustic gig last night and talked music, work, the medical field, evil glowing nocturnal animal eyes, and photography. The band minus Landis played outdoors at the Cherrywood Coffeehouse ( formerly Quack's ), and there was a little worklight that was positioned at stage left just so, throwing Amy's shadow against the wall, looming large over the band. It looked very dramatic, very rock n' roll. After my first couple of attempts at capturing that shadow, I played with the settings, slowed down the shutter speed...and boom, I got a few rather awesome shots. The light from the lamp bent and twisted in some very interesting permutations, lending a Floydian air to things. M was fairly impressed with the way they turned out.
( Yeah, I've got quite a few pics that I need to upload to my Flickr page. )
After the gig I helped Amy load her gear into her vehicle and sat down with Ryan, Amy, and Ryan's friend John for a while outside while M went indoors to chat with Landis, who had just showed up after driving in from College Station. Ryan and I talked a little longer as everyone repaired indoors, and I bailed out at around 11 and went home to check out video from the Download Festival ( Down tore the place up--Phil Anselmo's looking and sounding healthier than he has in years--and ZOMG, Faith No More reunited!! ) and rap with Andrew and his friend Marz ( Mars? ).
And now...well, the biggest plan is to watch The Devil And Daniel Johnston, a loaner from Jason.
