yoinked from an rpg.net thread:
You want to stay away from the Isla de Nunca.
Seems that there was one ship, the Vengeful, captained by ol' James Tiber that had what you might call an incident at that island.
There's a Carib tribe called the Arawak, and they've been a favored catch for slavers for some time now; they're mostly a right peacable folk. The Vengeful had a hold and a bilge filled with all manner of boyish cargo, most of 'em Arawak, a few of 'em having other origins, and at least one of them a son of some Voodoo man from the islands. Old James liked that one for company on a few night, they say, and the boy hated him more than anyone ever did hate another.
Now, it seems that the voodoo boy knew about some ritual, some ju-ju or something, called a Petro ritual. And, just as the ship was off the shores of Isla de Nunca, he got together those Arawak kids, and they picked out some other whelp from their ranks they didn't much care for. They cut that one kid open, ate out his heart, and painted themselves with his blood, and their chains rusted through on the spot.
So, just afore sunup, these kids rushed the deck of the Vengeful, screaming like a pack of wounding birds, stinking of rust and blood, and they injured most of the crew what was on deck. Most of 'em jumped to the water, then, but the crew got their wind up enough to corner a few at the mast. The voodoo boy was one, and he climbed as he fought, to the top of the mast, and old Captain Tiber climbed too.
When they got to the top, they fought a bit, with the sky just seeing a touch of color, lurching and a-clinging and trying to knock the other into falling to the deck. But in the end, the voodoo boy managed to gash Tiber good on the forearm - turns out that Tiber had to have the hand off later, is how bad. And then the boy jumped.
They say he jumped clear from the mainmast out over the figurehead, if you can credit it. Like it was nothing to do it - and by this time, the Arawak savage boys are on the shore, and they're screaming "Petro Pa! Petro Pa!".
And shots hit the water all around that boy, but he makes shore anyway, and he looks back at the ship, with the sunset behind him, and he cracks this noise, crowing like a rooster. Then him and his boys, they're gone into the jungle of the island.
Old James has got a hook on his stump now, and he sails the waters around the Isla de Nunca - the Isle of Never - looking for them boys he lost; and he'll sink any ship comes near, jealous of his revenge.
