Hearing Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton speak the past two nights has made me realize that, this election,  I want my politicians to remain rehearsed, distant and unapproachable. Both speeches, I thought, were fantastic. Hillary had those utter bullshit examples of the archetypal people she met on the campaign trail who she will "never forget". Biden tore his lifelong politician friend a new asshole. Even John Kerry got a chance to redeem himself. It was a great setup: calculated and formulaic. I think Obama is going to come across sounding like a modern-day Cicero tonight. I look forward to it.

I do have a little bit of reservation in my heart. After reading Machiavelli's "The Prince" for the first time, and considering season four of The Wire, I am worried about the promise of Obama. I feel like - and this is only a gut feeling - people are pinning all their hopes and dreams on him. So when he is elected, and things don't change as quickly as they expect, his popularity will plummet to Bush levels. My hope is that he acutally inspires people to want to be involved in their government, instead of allowing people to think that government will fix their problems.
I can't imagine anyone wanting to vote for McCain. Especially when the GOPs message seems to be, "this country needs change. Obama is too inexperienced to change anything. So vote McCain." it's like, "Sick of McDonald's? Try Burger King! It's right across the street."
