house-closing photojournal

May 02, 2008 23:39

Yesterday marked the closing of my purchase of my condo in Jersey City. To commemorate the occasion, I made a little photojournal of the whole day leading up to closing ( at least, the parts I felt I could get away with photographing ).

7:45am :: The day kicks off in my parents' neighborhood in philly. I took the train to philly the night before because I needed to get a certified check for my closing costs, which I had only just gotten the final numbers for. I got on the 9 bus and headed into center city.

8:37am :: I got off the bus in town and headed to my bank, which had just opened at 8:30. I proceeded to certify the second-biggest check I had ever made. The first biggest was made last week; it was the second deposit for the property.

9:08am :: Check in hand, I head to the subway station to get to the amtrak station. On the way, I bought a wholesome breakfast of cinnabon.

9:13am :: With hunger satiated somewhat, I take the westbound El towards 30th street.

9:17am :: I exit the subway and walk to 30th Street Station. No hobos have attacked... yet.

9:24am :: Now within 30th Street Station, I get my prepaid train ticket and prepare to head north. I already miss my cinnabon.

9:38am :: The only way I could make it to Jersey City in time for the closing was to spring for the Acela train. On the Acela, it takes 1 hour and 9 minutes to get from Philadelphia to New York City. (!)

10:30am :: Discovering that the train stops in Newark before hitting Manhattan, I get off there and switch to the PATH train towards Jersey City.

10:44am :: I arrive at Grove street, my new soon-to-be native underground public transport station.

11:32am :: After a brief pitstop at Haim and Scott's, I headed to the condo to do the scheduled final walkthrough. It was not trashed or on fire, so the process continued on!

12:59pm :: This is it -- I'm about to enter my lawyer's office at Exchange Place to sign the final papers. SQUEEEEE

2:49pm :: After about two hours of lawyer-ing, I AM A HOMEOWNER.

4:54pm :: My first photo inside my new place as it's owner.

It was a pretty hectic day, but now it's all mine and I can start making it into a home. More photos of the inside are forthcoming!
