A. Action, locked to 1126 Taylor Road, early in the morning
[The sun comes from the windows, the warmth of the new day gently pushes her away from her dreams. It certainly feels like a good day is about to start. Almost without thinking, she nuzzles her face against the shoulder her head had been resting so far. She feels...soft. Squishy, almost.

[But....]
Gneep. ngggggg.
I... I may sleep on the floor. Maybe. I do think I have to sleep here, though: the kids will be worried if I sleep on the sofa. We're supposed to be married, and their parents.
Um... you need to know. Most people hate the drones here. I... I kind of like them. I think of them sort of like very simple, gentle, stupid Muses... Um. Limited androids? Not very smart, but very easy to please, if you don't try to make them live outside Mayfield's rules. We...
We. Um. We have two kids. Catherine, and Perry. You'll fit right into the family: they're red-heads, like both of us. Catherine's 5, and Perry's 14. They go to school in the daytime.
You'll have to get some kind of job. I'm told they don't let women have many of the interesting jobs, though.
And... do you cook? I don't...much. But I did figure out how to use the washing machine and drier when The Betty....
[He's suddenly very sad. The Betty was his drone wife, and to him it's like they just killed a very dim-witted child, to bring Megurine here.]
I...learned how to run the washing machine and drier when The Betty wasn't here. I can do the laundry for us, and help keep the house clean. But if you don't cook I'm going to have to ask a friend to help, because the kids can't live on grilled cheese sandwiches forever, and that's all I really make very well.

[Jokes aside, Luka doesn't feel right claiming the bed for her alone.]
Hate them? As long as they don't display annoying behaviors I won't mind them.
And don't worry about the cooking, I have that one covered. You can take the washing and we'll see what else comes up-

I suppose we can try sharing the bed. At the same time. We...
[Blush]
I have a sort of almost girlfriend, here. And I had a sort of almost girlfriend back home, where I came from. You won't be offended if I'm...
[Very shy]
Honestly, I'll try to behave like a gentleman of honor.
The kids -- all drones -- are annoying to a lot of people because they're cheerful, chattery, not very smart, and they simply don't seem to believe or understand that the make-believe in this place isn't real. They're going to insist you've always lived here, and that you're their mother, and they've always known you. And if you behave too oddly they're going to get upset and scared and try to get you to conform. But if you can sort of just let them keep on believing what they believe it's actually pretty easy to deal with them, and they're very easy to please. (sad) They want to like you and play "Happy Families."
Thanks, on the cooking. I'll try to learn enough to be a bit of a help.
I have spare maps, and a pamphlet about the town I got when I came here. Using the telephones will put you in touch with the other Mayfield residents. And I can introduce you to the people I know, if you'd like. I can make a phone call to let people know you're here? It won't get you a lot more friends, because I'm pretty new, too. But it will give you a little circle of people who know you.

Why would I be, now? You seem like a nice guy, but I'm not looking into anything of any sort for the time being, so if you don't want anything, and I don't want anything, and this is all clear, then we should be just perfect, right?
[Unless it turns she has been magically transported to a romantic comedy. Then she's pretty much damned to love him.]
So the kids are convinced? Well, I guess there is no point on upsetting them if they aren't going to change at all, right? So I'll behave around them, promise.
[Truth to be told, she wouldn't care about trying to change them in the first place; letting them be is far less of a bother for her. Nodding in resolution, she jumps out of the bed, smoothening her nightgown.]
Any kind of additional information to figure this place will be much appreciated. I suppose there are clothes that will fit me, too, right?

So, what would you like for breakfast?

Anyway. Um... I know she had eggs and breakfast sausages in the house, and bread and jam for toast. Is that simple enough?

[She makes a little snorting noise as she makes her way towards the closet and starts inspecting the clothes.]
And evil milk. This is just getting better and better...

Mayfield's pretty weird, yeah. I've got a friend who says it seems to be patterned on some old fictions from someplace at least similar to her world's America, so you're probably right about the breakfast food.
Where are you from, if not America? What did you do? Did you have any talents that have disappeared, like your old body?

[Checking the skirts. The long, heavy skirts. Ugh.]
And I could sing line nobody else you might know. Not even my siblings, but humble as I am I try to keep it down. I should be able to sing more or less well even with human vocal cords though...
