2010 had a few hiccups, but overall was a pretty good year for me.
Fannishly, I posted 15 podfics in 5 fandoms, adding up to 16:41:14 hours. My primary fandoms were American Idol, Sherlock, Doctor Who and Merlin. With a late addition of Community.*
January
I didn't do a whole lot of consequence this month. But I did finally manage to post my podfic of Drastically Redefining Protocol! I started watching American Idol with
blacksquirrel and
bitterlotus as it aired. Because I'm a masochist or something I guess. Went to see Sherlock Holmes again.
February
I went to see the Wailin' Jennys in concert. I participated in the
help_haiti charity auction and posted my podfic of Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda. I flew to Montreal for a fun filled weekend and Colin James concert thanks to
jarlsberg71 and
soobunny and much to the surprise of
blacksquirrel! Shockingly I did not make any rage posts about Detour this month.
March
I went to Marscon and ran into Danny Gokey of all people at the Mall of America. I did a lot of planning for Detour and CONvergence. March seems to also have been the start of planning to go to every concert ever over the summer months. Had a kickin' birthday party full of Utena, Beatles Rock Band, and cupcakes.
April
I posted my podfic of You'll Get There In The End. The 11th Doctor, Matt Smith, hit the airwaves! And although I didn't fall for him the way I did Eccleston or Tennant, any worries I had about him were instantaneously blown out of the water. Through a comedy of errors I managed to procure some tickets for Adam Lambert's concert at Mystic Lake Casino, then had half of them taken away. (Damn you, Ticketmaster.) Anime Detour happened for the first year at the Bloomington Sheraton. The hotel is and was great, but the con itself nearly broke me. Actually, scratch that. It really did break me in 2010. But good friends are what ensured my survival.
May
HOLY CRAP, I WENT TO JAPAN! Along with
porcelainsakura,
fishay, and
indagda to visit
killercherrypie. Anime Twin Cities, CONvergence, and the Geek Partnership Society combined forces and made it possible to sign the lease on the geek rec center in Minneapolis! I discovered how amazing Janelle Monae is. Saw Iron Man 2.
June
KRADISON MONTH IN MINNESOTA! I actually exchanged words with Kris Allen. I got pictures and autographs from the entire, lovely Kris Allen Band. I bought a pink elephant shirt. IT WAS CRAAAAAZY. I also saw David Archuleta from afar at the Mall of America beforehand, where I seem to run into AI alumni with some frequency. Then I went on a roadtrip to northern Minnesota with
blacksquirrel and
yashakizu and had SECOND ROW SEATS to Adam Lambert's concert up there, featuring Ms. Allison Iraheta as the opening act along with Orianthi. We then drove back the next day and went to see the concert again at Mystic Lake. Doctor Who finale aired for the season and I forgave it any/all grievances I had prior to that point. I saw Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me live! Got to go to W00tstock! Went to Rock the Garden and saw Retribution Gospel Choir, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, OK Go, and MGMT.
July
CONvergence was fantastic this year. I went to a lot of really great panels. I met more awesome local people. I met more awesome international people. I watched a lot of the World Cup. I went to see Inception. I fangirled out about White Collar. Sherlock aired and I fell for it hard. Had a good time with friends at AnimeIowa.
August
Vividcon! Good times with more good friends I don't get to see often enough, plus the opportunity to meet new, amazing people. Went to see a live Rifftax of Reefer Madness. Went to Brit's downtown and saw Sherlock Holmes on their rooftop. Posted my podfic for Homemaking and some Ocean's Eleven short ones. Participated in the
help_pakistan charity auction. Posted a couple AI podfics for the podfic remix challenge.
September
I migrated myself over to Dreamwidth from Livejournal and haven't looked back since. I descended further into madness Sherlock fandom. I posted my podfic of the Drastically Redefining Protocol Extras, which were long overdue, along with But I Still Have Dreams for
paraka for the
help_pakistan auction. Had a Due South marathon to acquaint
bitterlotus with the fandom. Started watching a lot of new TV, including Hawaii Five-0 and Rizzoli & Isles. Neither of which I've really been keeping up with. Shame on me. Merlin season three started airing and left me somewhat wanting. Flew to New York for Epicuricon! Got epically sick at my own expense. But made some new Sherlock fans and had an amazing time hanging out with cool people, so it was a fair trade. Also went on a road trip to Madison with
porcelainsakura for Geek.Kon and accidentally beat the esteemed John Kovalic at his first game of Munchkin while I was spectacularly drunk.
October
I took a weekend excursion with
cottonandice and
draconity where we hung around, played geeky games, and I pimped Sherlock at them quite hard with much success. \o/ Merlin introduced Gwaine into my life and I forgave it a fair amount of its asshattery. Because I'm easy like that. With trepidation, I started watching season six of Supernatural and the show won my heart back a bit. Glee and I had an Argument. At the end of the month I took a roadtrip to Wisconsin with
porcelainsakura,
yashakizu,
fishay, and
indagda to the House on the Rock for the American Gods Halloween event with Neil Gaiman. Was hugely impressed by the House, which I had stupidly thought would be kitschy BS. Had an incredible time at the Saturday night party in the House itself. Saw Stars at First Avenue.
November
Elections! Oh my! Minnesota managed to split the governor's vote so closely between Mark Dayton and Tom Emmer that we needed to do a recount. Again. Went to Omegacon and watched it snow a whole lot from indoors with good, geeky company. Still went outside to play Beverage Baseball, of course. Saw Electric Six at First Avenue. Started watching Fringe.
December
Not a whole lot of consequence happened in December for me personally. I was fannish about a lot of things. Someone damaged my car, which I'm still annoyed about. I went to the Doomtree Blowout at First Avenue with
cottonandice and there was an epic snowstorm that lasted the entire weekend. The latter half of the month was spent in several weeks of intense socializing with many friends who were (and still are at this point) all in town from out of state/country. Saw Black Swan in the process. And although my family Christmas was an up and down roller coaster of emotion, it all more or less evened out. And my little brother proposed to his girlfriend on Christmas Eve! Marathoned the first season of Community. Rounded out the year with a fantastic party at
takuansoho and
belindabird's house with nearly all of them. I'm very lucky to have so many good friends.
And that's that for 2010! There are even a lot of things I'm leaving out. It was a busy, busy year for me. Here's looking forward to 2011, which I'm hoping is going to be another exciting travel year for me.
*Fandom, you were so right about this show. You always are. I will never, ever doubt you when you tell me I need to be watching something.
