Anime Detour 2010: We Survived It

May 01, 2010 23:05

I was going to make a big long post about this, but I'm just not up to it. I've thanked the people I sincerely wanted to thank for all the highlights of the weekend and talking about everything that went wrong just feels like beating a dead horse. We live, we learn, we move forward and make things better. So suffice to say that this year was a ( Read more... )

I noticed a couple of tiny glitches, but I put it down to "new hotel" and went about my business. The vast majority of the con was a positive experience for me.

Mind, I'm pretty sure the Nine Mile Grill won't be open Saturday night next year (unless they decide to go with a Japanese cuisine menu), because they were doing dismal business.

And that's mostly where the trip ups were, getting used to the new hotel. Things will only get better going forward.

That's interesting to hear about the Nine Mile Grill. Thanks.

Unless they've improved drastically over the last three years (or lowered their extortionate prices) nobody will miss them. I don't recall their food being all that great (except at breakfast, which for me is pretty hard to screw up) but I do remember the $$$$ price tag. >:(

The Nine Mile Grill has started doing $12 buffets during conventions. They did incredibly well at convergence, the problem with Detour was probably lack of awareness.

Agreed. Many of our attendees don't know this hotel very well yet.

Very wise of them. Perhaps the new hotel guy (I understand Charles retired this year, c/d?) can suggest that to them, because if they are doing a reasonably-priced buffet, it's a good thing all around. Running over to Friday's is not always a good solution to the lunch/dinner question.

Yep, $12 all-you-can-eat is not bad, expecially if you have one of those five-dollar-off coupons for it. Lack of awareness (yes, there were small signs in the elevator, but that was it for advertising) and being scheduled opposite the masquerade were more of the problem, I think.

The food itself was decent enough, but I was the only customer in in that half-hour.
