It occurs to me that I will never get this thing done unless I do it in several small parts.
Thursday
I think I woke up sometime around 9am and more or less immediately started loading up all my stuff into the car. I answered some last second questions about AMV/WTF/Programming and headed out to pick up
belindabird and
takuansoho. We arrived at the Thunderbird around 1pm to pick up our badges after which we fished all the programming inserts out of my trunk and proceeded to stuff programming guides for the next FOUR HOURS. God, that sucked. Luckily though we were sent 2 or 3 volunteers to help out. I still look on the bright side though, at least it's something where I get to sit around and chat with friends for a long time while doing it. Sadly we missed out on the Jimmy Johns dinner order that went in shortly before we got there, so some of us drove over to the Mall of America for food.
After that was done, we got checked into the room and unloaded the car. By the time that was finished, I had to deliver the Opening Ceremonies skit to tech in main programming just in time to realize that HEY the staff and guest mixer was starting. So I hung out there for a while and talked with a few of the guests. I met Chris Ayres there for the first time as he was going around to all the tables introducing himself with his giant water mug thing of doomy doom. Let me digress momentarily to mention that Chris is awesome and I am not usually one to be impressed by guests at all. While at the mixer I also had a chance to warn Brittney Karbowski of my forthcoming birthday party that night since she was in the room next to mine. Sweetheart that she is, she was totally all right with that so long as we weren't making noise until 4am or anything.
I vaguely recall hanging out with some of the rest of staff and shooting the breeze a bit before I realized that I didn't have any further organizational responsibility that night, so a bunch of us decided to hit up the hot tub before it got too late. Sadly the hot tub was only lukewarm and full of splashing children, but Holly and Josh brought all of their raver rubber duckies and made up for it.
By the time I got back to the room with the group,
takuansoho had already gotten the projector/speakers/screen set up for my birthday party. YAY! The original plan was to have the "real" WTF contest in my room before the con. Meaning that we'd all get drunk and search up bad AMVs on YouTube. Or at least that was the plan until I had my first sip of Pirate Lemonade.
Ohhh, the Pirate Lemonade.
There's a short story behind this. Somewhere sometime on LJ, a friend of a friend (username lost to time) was researching rums. Dark rums in particular. She especially enjoyed the Cruzan Blackstrap dark rum and described it as "Eats babies. Kicks Lovecraftian entities in the nads." Let me tell you that this warning really SHOULD be on the label because she sure as hell wasn't kidding. But anyway, you add this rum to some cold Limoncello and voila, Pirate Lemonade. Anyone in that room who had ANY of that rum and survived to see the next day has a liver of steel I tell you. It took out half the room in no time flat.
So all in all that night
takuansoho,
belindabird,
willow_one,
vulchu,
shirozaru and Eric,
reikou_hitakana,
jariten,
tokenfanboy,
wombat_socho, and I think
phoenixalpha (Forgive me if I imagined this. See previous mention of Pirate Lemonade.) all stopped by to party and watch random things on the internet like Metalocalypse, Hard Gay, Soul'd Out's "Iruka" video, and other such hilarity I'm having a difficult time remembering. Thanks to everyone who turned up!
We crashed surprisingly early around 1am.
