I mentioned my yearning for Cran-Raspberry Light juice. Well, in reorganizing the larder, to take better stock of what resources I have, I discovered an interesting thing. You see, years ago, when I was in college, along about 2000, I think, I went through a period of loving Raspberry Ice Crystal Light. Yes, it's true, I'm afraid. Eventually I got tired of it. It seems I had a canister that still contained three servings (each serving makes one pitcher of drink). They are hard now, where once they were powder, but I was going crazy without my beloved juice. So I made some. I am on the third and final pitcher now. There is no dressing this up. There is no coming up with some great way to use it. You mix it, you drink it, you move on. So I'm kind of proud of myself for not wasting it, and at least it does, I think, taste better than the tap water here.
Made steel-cut oats with wheat berries and the last of the apple juice in the crock pot for this morning. Unfortunately, my assistant chef forgot to put the last two apples in with the other stuff, which would have imparted much-needed flavor and textural aid. It was okay, but not as good as the millet yesterday morning.
Totally cheated for dinner. My mom sent me a care package that had some awesome soup mixes from World Market. There was a tortellini soup that only required a can of tomato sauce (or, in this case, a can of tomato paste and some extra water, which is much cheaper), so we had that.
Discovered I have about 15 lbs. just of regular white rice, to say nothing of the 12 rice-a-roni boxes and the 10 couscous boxes, and boxes and bags of other rices and grains. I also have like 20 cans of various beans, and about 20 lbs. of all different kinds of dry beans. So we'll see how I can sex all that up.
