i got this email today. by the way, take charge is a govt program that provides free birth control to people 19 and under, but not free sti testing or prevention and only some teens qualify. it is so fucked up. oh and by the way, if you go into pp and say you are a lesbian teen that wants bc for period management you can't get take charge because it only covers bc if it is for pregnancy prevention. argh! it makes perfect sense to not provide free condoms to teenagers. just because pregnancy rates (in our area at least) are rising and stis are spreading at an alarming rate why would you provide free condoms?
so here is the email
Hello everyone,
It is with regret that I inform you that we can no longer give away free condoms at Planned Parenthoods. We will still be able to give away the tri-color condoms for prizes at Teen Clinic, but there will no longer be buckets of condoms for people to just take. The reason for this is that Medicaid refuses to reimburse us for any product that we give away. What this means is that because we give some condoms away for free, Medicaid won't reimburse us for the specialty condoms we sell behind the counter. Without the Medicaid reimbursement, it would cost us a quarter of a million dollars a year in condoms alone. Teens can still get free condoms if they sign up for Take Charge.
