i think a part of what you lament is caused by the willingness of people to connect their content, even if it means sacrificing the old-time anonymity.
i agree on the videos, mostly.
i think, though, that keeping your own little content-islands separate by not linking them together in some way is really not so much hassle as it could be, though much harder than it once was, with the advent of social networking.
The connectivity is clearly what most people want. I don't deny that at all, and think it's why social networking sites, in particular, have done so well of late. It's just that the internet was a place where one could interact with others without actually being social before, and that's definitely changed. It's definitionally social these days -- and if it's not, no one sees what you've done at all
