On the ever-growing list of Shit That Annoys Xi:

This whole hot chick/tough girl thing that's been in vogue for a few years now. And what really annoys me is that so many women seem to think this is so great for the female image in Hollywood. This is why it annoys me: Nearly every woman you see who is in some kind of kick-ass role has a skinny ( Read more... )

Oh yes, and if you're a fat woman, you're automatically comedic relief... Unlike me (well I am comedic relief) but I can also outbench many men, and kick asses as well as take names. Let's show them some REAL women!

Don't blaspheme against Mila Jovovich - I've wanted her for years. Goddamn restraining order...

In the same vein, I was very happy to see some pleasantly plump women on Carnivale along with the waifs. Cynthia Ettinger as Rita Sue wasn't afraid to show some fleshy skin and show that you can be heavy and sexy. I applaud HBO for that too. Checking imdb she apparently also appeared in Deadwood but I never watched Deadwood (just couldn't get inspired to).

Oh, man. I *love* Rita Sue. I think she's gorgeous. I was actually thinking about her when I wrote this post.

Of course, the inverse is that we're allowed to put down dem skiiiiiiiinny chix as much as we like, fucking bitches. Should be hung from hooks like chickens in a factory.

C'mon, you know it's been a while since I've responded like this.

No, no, no. I never said skinny girls should be put down. I just said that I can't stand to see them in ass-kicking roles. It makes no sense. If you want to be teeny and skinny and underweight, that's fine. Some women are just built that way and that's cool. My real beef is this: The new sexy tough chick is still just another sex symbol. It's condescending and it's downright ridiculous. Sure, it can be pretty to look at. Can't a woman be tough and strong and still be feminine without being underweight and over-sexied? The notion of a woman like the character above being some kind of role model as a strong woman just makes me want to puke. She's still just a sex object. Dress her up tough, isn't she cute? I hate that.

You are trapped in a fence with a large aggressive dog. Who do you want protecting you, me, a 90lb woman, or Freddy, an average sized male?

Gah, I'm not expressing my point very well here and I feel like I'm being lost in semantics ( ... )
