Coincidental Fate
"Once upon a time, there was a princess. She lived in a big castle, surrounded by beautiful things and protected by so many knights."
A princess. That was who she was. Born in a wealthy family and protected constantly, she was a rose in full bloom, surrounded by thorns. She was special, not just a mere face on Earth.
"She was a very beautiful princess."
She was the epitome of everything beautiful. Her long flowing hair, her twinkling eyes and her carefree smile... Everything about her was simply perfect. Simply flawless, as if no mistake was done. She was God's finest masterpiece, His favorite daughter. Her features were ethereal and fey, like a whisper, a ghost.
"She was also very kind to everyone and everything around her. Even flowers and birds and animals. She loved them all and everyone loved her."
But she was no ghost whose coldness saps away a person's life. Her laughter was infectious, her playfulness was endearing, a bounce in her every step. Wherever she went, people smiled. She was like the sun, the source of warmth and light, the fountain of happiness and joy. She was no ghost. She was an angel.
"And because of this, she was always protected and guarded by the best soldiers in the kingdom. They did this because they want to protect her beauty and kindness."
She was loved and cared for and guarded closely, as if she was made of glass, easily broken and could never be brought back. She was given everything she needed, everything she wanted. She was the pride of her family, their little flower... And they all vowed never to give her away.
"Then, one day, while the princess was trying to take care of a bird on top of a tree, a young man passed by her."
A commoner. That was who he was. He was a simple man, from a simple family with a simple dream: to become a teacher. He was no one special, just a somebody. Your everyday, average guy.
"The young man was the princess's tutor and he was a kind man."
He was the epitome of a perfect teacher. His neat auburn hair, his kind eyes and his patient smile... He was loved by both his students and colleagues. He did not want the attention and yet it was given to him. He was caring and loving, a father-figure to all of them.
"And then, suddenly, the branch where the princess was sitting on broke and the princess fell."
"Did the princess die?"
"No, her tutor caught her in time. And do you know what happened next?"
"What? Tell me!"
"It appears that an angel has fallen from the sky."
"They lived happily ever after."
They were two different souls, came from two different worlds and lived two different lives. Heaven and Earth. She was an angel. He was a mortal. They were not meant to be together by their families and their meeting was a mere coincidence. Coincidence that he was right there the moment she fell.
But then again, perhaps it was fate that had brought them together that very day and it was fate that had found a way to bring them together with that simple accident. It was simply fate and all it had to do was wait for that thing to come, a thing people call love.
"But onii-chan, I thought princesses can only end happily ever after with a prince?"
Eleven-year-old Kinomoto Touya closed the story book in his hands, sticking a familiar photo in the pages as a bookmark, then ruffled the auburn locks of his little sister, who was currently tucked under her pink blanket, waiting eagerly for her brother's response. He glanced over his shoulder for a moment and smiled upon seeing a small feather floating down, invisible to little Sakura's sight.
"Well, not all princesses end up with a prince. Some end up with their tutors."
After all, there's no such thing as coincidence. Only the inevitable.
