Quiet Sunday afternoon. Went to Matinay's family's house for lunch, as usual.
James left Guitar Hero II over here, been playing like crazy. It's funny how it seems like rhythm games can give you a sense of accomplishment that other genres can't always provide. When I'm really hitting each and every note, in the zone, suddenly my concentration just lifts and I'm playing along naturally, just in sync with the game and the song, effortlessly. You could criticize this by saying that you get the same thing from learning to play an actual instrument, as well as some actual skills, but, in all honesty, I don't have the actual interest in learning to play to make that worth it. It would just be money and time down the drain. GImme the fast fix.
I was thinking more about job stuff today, driving along 99, looking at the tugboats on the Duwamish and the larger boats in Eliot Bay, and got to thinking about a job offer my dad told me a friend of his extended. I don't really know the details, but he said that
Island Tug was looking for a cook. At first, I shied away from it, but the more that I think about it, if I knew more about what the job entailed I might be interested in giving it a try. I've been practicing cooking a bit more lately, with this semi- on my mind. I might ask again next time I talk to my dad.
Now a little spring cleaning. For my Mac using friends, I found a helpful little terminal command that helps save a little bit of space by cleaning out your iPhoto folder. Now, I know the Terminal is kind of a scary thing, but I'll put it here so you can just cut and paste each line:
mkdir ~/.Trash/iPhoto-Originals
cd ~/"Pictures/iPhoto Library/Modified/"
find . -type f -exec mv "../Originals/{}" ~/.Trash/iPhoto-Originals/ \;
So, what this does is it finds all the the pictures in iPhoto that have been modified, and deletes the original unmodified images. For example, if I had a picture that I removed red eye from, or something like that, iPhoto actually makes 2 copies, one unedited and one modified. If you're happy with the change, there's no reason for the backup. Now, obviously, this does have the drawback of leaving you stuck with your modified version, but if you're happy with your changes, there's no reason why you should have to hold onto the original, just to satisfy iPhoto. So, anyway, that's my Mac tip of the day. Maybe I could make this a weekly thing.
