Title: Changes
Pairing: KiHae
Genre: Romance, a bit of Humor
Rating: PG-13
A/N: The plot-bunnies I have during my car trips (from the place I live to where I’m staying to study) are the most interesting so far… FTW, my first official KiHae *tears of joy*
Summary: After coming out of the closet, Kibum never expected what the meeting with the last buyer of his spermatozoids would cause.

--

”As least promise us you’ll donate”

He can’t decline his mother’s pleading and sighs while holding her sobbing form in his arms. He wonders how it’d be if things were different…

Kibum slumps further on his chair when he hears his secretary report the current call, “Ask her where she wants to meet me” He replies with a bored voice.

He doesn’t really understand why she wants to meet him; never once before one asked for a personal meeting. There isn’t anything in the contract saying he is supposed to go, not to mention he isn’t looking forward it… But it’s a very convenient way to avoid his family’s meeting to probably make him meet yet another candidate to become his wife… Don’t his parents grow tired of such futile attempts?

It really wasn’t the way he thought it’d be to meet the newest buyer of his spermatozoids. He had expected the usual fancy and preppy woman in stiletto heels, ready to jump on his lap the moment he sat down. Instead, her hand closes around his and shakes it firmly startling him a little-

“I’m Donghae, Lee Donghae. Nice to meet you, Kim Kibum” Donghae says in almost fluent English, “…” A pause, “I only know the basic phrases in English…” and she finishes in Korean, shrugging with a laugh.

She doesn’t seem to mind his quiet exterior and stares interestedly at him for some time before asking about daily life and other irrelevant things, to which Kibum answers naturally, much to his own surprise.

“Espresso?” He asks while mixing his café latte with whipped cream.

“Hate things too sweet” She answers as if she had just answered what she’d like to receive as birthday present.

Kibum doesn’t bring up the real purpose of their meeting; he waits for her to talk first and doesn’t mind waiting just a little more. It’s been a while since he had gone out to enjoy his free time, and have a pleasant company such as hers.

“So, I read your profile… Still, I wanted to know you personally” Kibum looks up from his cup and she puts a part of her bangs behind her ear, “Would you like to go to the festival if you have time?”

Kibum is a little surprised with the change of topics and his mouth fills in before his mind can. He really isn’t supposed to agree when he has a stack of papers to fill for the next day, besides the fact he doesn’t really enjoy crowded places. But when Donghae smiles, he all but forgets what he had just worried about.

Being the chairman of his family’s business doesn’t make it easy to go out to such a public place. He is more than often in fancy restaurants and other elite environments, much to his dismay, so it’s really refreshing to feel the smell of food and candy in the air and not be forced to wear expensive (and uncomfortable) clothing for a change.

He has forgotten his wristwatch at home and doesn’t even notice the time passing so fast. By the very end, the fireworks crack beautifully in the sky. Donghae cheers excitedly, teeth showing widely, and Kibum strangely can’t look away.

“Let’s meet again?” She asks once it’s all over, and Kibum easily accepts.

It’s another one of those business dinners and Kibum is once again dying of boredom inside.

“Why don’t you drive Miss Hyori home, Kibum?” His father suggests with a voice that makes Kibum cringe. He knows his father knows that he knows and still, he forces him into compromising situations such as this.

He keeps his hands on the wheel all the time and pretends he doesn’t notice the hot stares he is receiving from Hyori, or the way she is crossing her legs so her skirt shows more of her thighs.

“Here we are” They’re by her mansion’s doorstep, and the predictable happens.

Kibum holds his ground when her glossed lips presses up to his but he doesn’t make a move to touch her (it’s already a miracle he isn’t shoving her away). Although his blood boils inside his veins, he manages a smile and elegantly drives away when she gets out of the car. As soon as he disappears from her sight, he wipes his lips with the back of his hand.

Donghae suddenly comes to mind and he feels sicker with the scent of the strawberry gloss in his hand. He foresees a troublesome night of sleep…

“Oi” There’s a rather harsh tap to his back, “Did I interrupt any important thoughts?” He doesn’t really meet her eyes after last night events, but Donghae doesn’t seem to notice and sits by his side and offers him a pack of coconut cookies, “Thought they were the type of cookies you’d like. Oh, I’m gonna buy a drink”

He stares at the package, picks one cookie to try out and by the time she comes back from the drinks machine he has already finished eating everything.

Kibum winces when he sees Donghae frozen in place -he should have left some for her after all (but damn, weren’t those tasty?) - but she breaks into a huge grin. She offers her drink, which he declines, and she’s staring again at his face.

“Is there something in my face?” He goes along this time, smiling.

“Actually there is” She reaches out and rubs her thumb softly against his lower lip, then her eyes widen a little and she instantly takes her hand back and stands up, “Let’s go somewhere!”

He tries to find her gaze again, but when he does, she is already thoroughly focused on something else. He stares at her lips when she isn’t aware - thin and soft-looking even without any touch up.

He unconsciously touches his own lip.

“The espresso you asked for, sir” His secretary enters his office when he gives her permission.

“Thank you. Inform me immediately when the correspondence arrives. And last, drop the 'sir', okay?” Kibum tells his secretary with a neutral expression and blinks at her when she doesn’t move for an instant.

“U-understood... Kibum-ssi” She quickly bows with flushed cheeks and exits his office.

He shrugs, casually checking his hair and fixing the collar of his black shirt on the mirror-wall by his side before turning to his notebook screen.

Now it’s been exactly a week he had been going out with Donghae. He doesn’t think he had gone out this much with a person he barely knows. He just can’t help but accept all her invitations; his workday is a lot better with the prospect of having some random but fun time with her after he’s done for the day.

They’re in a bar near where Donghae lives. Kibum asks for a beer while she opts for water. Lately, she has been more silent than usual. She smiles the same way, behaves the same, but her gaze is far away, as if she’s lost in her thoughts.

Kibum doesn’t mind anymore she stares so intently at his face - it has become normal by now- so, over almost ten minutes she has been staring off space, he waves his hand quietly in front of her face.

She seems lost blinking and with her mouth opened like that so Kibum chuckles a little. She tears her gaze from him, lowering it to the floor and bites on her lower lip.

“Damn it” Donghae curses lowly suddenly, rummaging through her bag and Kibum almost lets his beer fall from his hold when he sees a slightly crumpled pack of cigarettes and a collector-like’s lighter in her hands.

“You smoke??”

“It’s not like I’m already pregnant. It’s just too… Ah, forget it” And she lights and takes a long drag of her cigarette. Kibum only looks thoroughly shocked and just a little bit puzzled.

“You…” Kibum clears his throat, “Can I have one?”

Donghae doesn’t make eye contact until their hands brush and Kibum thinks he is imagining when he sees longing in her eyes, if just for a second. He shakes the thought away as he takes a drag as well. It’s been years since university times.

“I used to be a man” Donghae states sometime later, just when he’s sipping his beer.

The waiter cleans her clothes the best he can, and Kibum must be with a very idiot expression in his face.

She asks the bill and drags Kibum out of the bar. It seems like his legs had stopped working on their own. When they reach the park and sit down on a bench, she rolls her eyes because he doesn’t seem to notice he is staring at her chest instead of her eyes. Men will always be men, hetero or gay. Kibum thinks he hears her mutter under her breath and in the next moment, Donghae grabs his hands and he yelps. An outsider would probably have problems guessing who the girl in there was.

“Do you think they’re fake?” Kibum really wants to take his hands away as fast as possible but Donghae has a dead grip and- shit, they feel so real, “There’s nothing science can’t do nowadays” She pulls out her ID and shows him that indeed she was male.

He stares at her old self in the 3x4 picture (sharper features, much shorter hair, just as attractive--) and keeps silent. It’s already twilight, and he vaguely remembers he should have sent important files to the filial.

“I changed the moment I had enough money to do so” Donghae isn’t looking at him just like usual, and he misses the brightness of her eyes, “The only thing that remains now is my voice” She clears her throat and Kibum hears her real voice for the first time. It’s suave, and bittersweet (with a hint of regret, maybe?) and Kibum doesn’t understand what the tightness inside his chest means.

Or the day is taking too long to pass by, or he’s really irritated, as he overheard his subordinates gossiping.

Fifteen minutes past four pm. His foot is tapping restlessly when he grabs the phone an almost sends it flying through the window by his harsh movements.

Kibum almost forgets what to say when he hears the familiar voice, “Hello? …Kibum?”

“Uh, yeah, it’s me” He dries his sweaty hand on his pants, “So…” He doesn’t know what to say, because it had always been Donghae who asked him out.

It’s as if someone is strangling him by each second she’s silent, “What about over the usual café?” She says, and Kibum spends the rest of the expedient a lot more relieved.

Traffic is unbearable and he groans, he wants to arrive in time, he wants to see Donghae so badly- The traffic light is green again and he runs as much as his driving license allows.

It finally clicks inside his head when he spots Donghae staring at her shoes on the same corner they firstly met.

Love should never have barriers, never be complicated. He remembers a line he once read in the past--

Donghae smiles at him when she notices him. The air filling his lungs is cold but feels like old days of puppy love and butterflies in his stomach. When he takes Donghae’s hand in his, it feels right, and Kibum likes the way Donghae’s smile widens just a bit more. He smiles as well.

“I think I’m gonna change again after I have the baby” Donghae is contemplative into his arms, soft and warm fingertips massaging slowly against his chest. Kibum takes some time to understand exactly what she wants to change.

“Are you on your sane mind?”

A chuckle, “If I were to answer that, it’d be too corny”

“Really” Kibum laughs because actually he wouldn’t mind at all Donghae saying something corny to him, “But why do you..?”

“We’d be happier” Kibum doesn’t ask what Donghae means by that because he knows. He embraces her even tighter.

“Silly, it doesn’t matter anymore” Kibum brings a hand to caress the feminine face with a thumb, making Donghae look at him in the eyes with it. He lowers his hand until it reaches her belly, It’s you he writes with his forefinger.

Donghae doesn’t mutter a word and doesn’t even need to. Her bright smile is enough answer. Kibum mirrors the smile - he can’t help it at all - and leans forward so their foreheads are touching, suddenly blowing air on Donghae’s lips. She wriggles laughing before cupping his face and kissing his cheek, just beside his nose and under his eye.

He feels tingles on his toes. He rubs his hands affectionately over the small of Donghae’s back and brings their lips together softly. Donghae’s eyes are wide as saucers and Kibum can’t help but break the kiss and laugh wholeheartedly, shaking both of their bodies together and Donghae looks like she wants to disappear as fast as possible from awkwardness.

Kibum doesn’t let go of her when she tries to shove him away, albeit with some difficulty because Donghae still has some of her previous body’s strength, and captures her opened lips on another kiss. The protest slowly dies down and Donghae finally, carefully, embraces his neck and returns the kiss.

The covers are warm over them, their empty cappuccino mugs still linger a sweet scent in the air and the rain is padding unnoticed against the window. They stay tangled in bed the entire day until they’re starving and both agree to Chinese takeout.

Later, they’re on bed again. Kibum is laying his head over Donghae’s shoulder, her fingers are threading through his hair affectionately while his hand is over her belly.

“What are you going to tell your parents?”

“Hmm, not sure” He sleepily answers, “Do you think you can handle them? I love them, really, but they sure are irritating sometimes”

“Not worried~ After all, I needed to know everything about my baby’s dad, including his background so I already knew the ‘consequences’ when I decided to snatch you for myself”

Kibum laughs loudly, “Stalker-ish” And he leans up to reach her lips.

Her belly still hasn’t even grown yet, but he thinks he can hear the baby’s breathing under his hand. As if aware of his thoughts, Donghae’s hand covers his and both sleep peacefully huddled together to the soft lullaby.

“I’m very glad to meet the both of you, Mr. and Mrs. Kim” Donghae bows even wrapped by Kibum’s arms, and when she smiles the couple stop gaping so much at her.

It won’t be easy to explain, Kibum knows, but he smiles at his parents as well, “Meet Lee Donghae, my fiancée”
