i'm re-reading 'life after god' by douglas coupland. i like it it stimulates my philosophical side.
he asks 'what is it that makes humans human?'. we know what behavior makes dogs' dogs, its the fetching of sticks and sniffing other dogs bums and sticking their head out of the car window and we know that cats are cats because they chase mice, they rub up against your shin when they are hungry and they can never decided if they actually want to go outside or not. he said the only things he can think of that humans do that others dont is smoking, body building and writing. why do we consider ourselves so superior to other species?
