This is the first chapter of my new story which is based on a reoccuring nightmare that my sister had from the ages 8 to when she was 10.
"Okay, go to sleep" Laura tells herself for the third time "it's just your imagination, there is no one in the room, I’m just being a 'fraidy cat". Pulling the covers down from over her head she looks around her small attic room, the light through the little window shines almost directly upon the bed, shrouding the rest of the room in almost complete darkness. Laura checks to see if the door across the room from her is still closed, she breaths a small sigh of relief at the sight of her poster of Kelly Clarkson that she hung on the back of the door that leads downstairs. After making sure all is right with her room she stands on her bed to drawl the curtains over the window, and cast her room once more into the dreaded darkness. Standing up on her bed Laura reaches up to close the curtains and suddenly feels goose bumps on her arms, out of the corner of her eye she catches movement on the street below her. Looking down onto her small street she sees a man walking along the sidewalk, the Man is wearing a dark brown overcoat and a fedora pulled low over his eyes, he is walking slow, his steps seem uncertain as if he doesn’t know where he is going, or he is wary of where he is walking. The Man stops suddenly and Laura pulls away from the window a little, The Man turns and looks up at Laura’s window and she whimpers softly to herself, she pulls the curtains closed and quickly gets under her covers.
“It was just some random old man, nothing to be afraid of, he probably didn’t see you anyway, just go to sleep, just go to sleep.” Laura’s stomach knots up in fear and she knows that sleep will be a long time coming.
