I've decided that Guitar Center is the Wal Mart of Rock and Roll. They are plentiful and their shit is cheap, but the second you need anything special, the whole system breaks down.
In June my keytar pretty much became un-reliable. It had been taken apart and reasembled way too many times. Also it got wet and dropped and punched fairly regularly since 2003. I've probably played about 300 shows with that fuckin thing.
No one makes keytars anymore, and fuck if I'm paying 1000 bucks for a used one on ebay, those blood suckers. Especially since my car needs a lot of work right now before I can drive it again-but that's another story.
Basically after almost 4 months of total bullshit I am getting a new midi controller. It's not a keytar, but I dont want to use any of my nice KORG shit as controllers on stage as they ARE worth 1000 bucks (not nearly that much with my endorsement discount, but still...) and would eventually get wrecked.
Also KORG used to make the RK-100 Keytar, but of course, no longer. Roland, yamaha, everyone pooped out so fuck em. Sadly though, had I gone directly through these companies I would have had SOMETHING months ago.
My first attempt at getting something from Guitar Center resulted in getting a bass case shipped to me. Not only is that not a keyboard, it's not even a fucking musical instrument. A snare drum would have been closer to what I needed.
Luckily, tonight I am going to go and get something i can actually use that they found for a reasonable price.
But it wont last. The other thing I have discovered is that anything you buy in a music store (not something custom built for you) is not meant for the road. You are supposed to play a few local shows and then give up and get married and either sell it or show it off to your kids. You are not supposed to take it on the road for 150 shows a year. Doing that is called calling their bluff.
So, whatever.
