For 2 reasons, really
1.) There have been no cool years since 1996.
2.) Anything that I am proud of this past year, I probably should not post anywhere public-due to legal, social, and personal complications. Despite that, I am very proud of myself.
So it will be an average post. I was thinking of getting another 2nd job after Toy's R For Jerks dried up, but I have been signed on for a bunch of weekday stuff at The Garage, so I will only be working there. This is a good thing, because as much as every job has it's ups and downs, I know that this is one where I can be myself, and I am not padding some nepotizmal fuckheads pockets with my blood. I can feel at peace, no cognative dissonance, no destructive outbursts.
I will be doing that, and playing shows. Lots of shows. This summer, we go on the longest tour we've ever done, and the beauty of it is, it's all being set up by our new booking guy. Not by me. Aside from that one we will also be touring with Psychostick. Old chums who fell ass backwards onto the radio. They like beer.
In other band news, for a little while now Darren Brown, the manager of The Violent Femmes has been a secret admirer of ours. After finally coming to watch our set, he wants to meet with us to discuss working together. Now, this guy has been in the biz for like nearly 30 years or something like that, and works with alot of the old 90's alt bands. Violent Femmes being one, They Might Be Giants being another. Thoough those bands are quirky, I could not really figure out what he saw in us specifically. But while I spoke with him, he mentioned that he used to work for The Dead Kennedies and some other crazy old 80's punk bands. I think he may see something in us after attending a wild raucus show of ours. Something new, a new punk rock maybe. Either way, kinda neat, we'll see what comes of this.
As for the actual New Years, I did not part too hard. We did a show at The House Of Bricks in Des Moines (which was really cool, that place is the 1st. ave of Des Moines, for what it's worth) and did not get back till 1 AM. When the ball dropped, we were playing Mario Kart DS in the van, which is good enough for me.
I went over to Scott Bibus's place for some low key sillyness. My old friend Brett was drunk and hollering at the top of his lungs while playing Mario Party. I drank Wiskey and Miller High Life out of the can.
The real party was the other night: Xmas 2 at my friend Kathleen's place. She was a drunken maniac at the party, and there were about 50 people there at one point, and it felt like about 200. I was there till about 7AM. I talked to Kathleen's friend Tontie, who before that had said aboutt 3 words to me in about 4 years. Johnny Boom Boom knocked over the xmas tree. I drew a moustache on him in his sleep. We watched part of a film about these mongoloids putting on "The Wizard OF OZ" play. Good times.
I'm going to Los Angeles later this month with Peter from Retardobot, Trevor and Jeff from Tub RIng, and Loren and Sky from Foxy Shazam. WE're there on official weird band business, but things are gonna get strange. I intend to get to the central nerve of the american dream, and see what can gleaned from the most foul and artificial city on earth.
