I did my taxes recently and for the first time ever, I owe the federal government money because all of the changes in tax laws back in 2009. On top of that, now I've got a deadline of four years to do one of three things:
1. Get a better job/work more hours so I can get health insurance by an employer
2. Mooch off of the government to buy crappy insurance (and I say crappy because when's the last time the government was in charge of anything of quality) since my mostly-broke ass more than likely won't be able to pay the charges.
Or 3. Pay a fine of unknown amounts to presumably help fund things for everyone else who took option #2.
All things considered, I'm pretty lucky that the last time I was sick with something worse than a cold or flu was when I still saw a pediatrician and I haven't been doing stupid shit that would require a rush to the emergency room for stitches or days spent in the hospital. Stuff that's not being covered on the other hand, like dental or eye care? Oh, I need some of that. It's been years since the last time I had a check up on my teeth or eyes because I'm not covered under any insurance.
That reminds me, I should check with the comic shop to see if I'd get anything regarding dental or optical with this partnership I have. I know I can use 1099 forms to deduct various things as business expenses but outside of that, not sure of any benefits that work outside of the store.
Also been watching Twin Peaks for the first time ever. Though I never understood why some of the DVD versions (i.e. the edition my dad ordered through his Netflix account) don't have the pilot, even the US one that didn't have the 20 extra minutes of footage like the European one.
