RELATIONSHIPS
in progress
CANON
[GONE] Manji: Bodyguard and object of affection. Grudgingly showed himself willing to help her when she had basically no one else in the world. She'd do pretty much anything for him, except maybe actually listen, much to his chagrin. Sometimes, they fight, but that never disrupts the rapport they have, which is as of yet still mostly of sibling-like nature, as Rin resembles his dead younger sister Machi. Was in the City for a while, but left. Bawww. :( Rin misses him a lot.
[GONE]
Anotsu Kagehisa: The enemy. Responsible for the murder of Rin's parents. Rin has sworn revenge on her father's grave, and pretty much the only person left to exact that revenge on is Anotsu himself. However, as these things go, it's complicated. Mostly, they involve a little roadtrip of unvoluntary bonding across half of Japan. Also, Rin has decided that the City "isn't the right place" to kill him, so she's more or less tolerating him right now. (But really, Rin's feelings on Anotsu warrant an essay of their own. Maybe someday.)
CITY
Nakajima Youko: BFF, get! Youko and Rin have a remarkable amount of stuff in common, even though one's a samurai daughter and the other... kind of an Empress. But they are both at places in their lives where they have to think about how to be strong and doing the right thing and making the right judgements, and they're the same age, too. Add to that that Youko was the first person to talk to Rin when she was new and alone in the City and to take her in, and you get a whole lot of attachment from Rin's side.
Enki: Ah, Rokuta-kun! From the same world as Youko, sharing their apartment, and Rin's little brother figure #1 (yes, she has several). They are sort of on equal grounds, however, since Enki's really five hundred years old. Still, he acts like a kid often enough, and then he and Rin will mostly laugh about it. She admires his pacifistic attitude - which she knows, granted, is mostly sheer necessity. He also likes to steal her chocolate, which she does NOT appreciate.
Keiki: And another flatmate from the Twelve Kingdoms. He is often a little stiff in his demeanor and sighs a lot, but Rin has learned that he is not uncaring, but merely not very good at socializing. Still, they haven't gotten very close yet.
[GONE]
Hibiki Ryōga: Former flatmate and good friend of Rin's. He is friendly and sincere, if sometimes a bit... clumsy about certain things. Rin knows about his "little secret" and keeps it as such. She also feels genuinely sorry for him about his curse.
[GONE]
Tendō Akane: From Ryōga's world. A nice girl whom Rin counts as a friend. Occasional sparring partner. Agrees with Rin about there needing something to be done about the City and the curses.
[GONE]
Saotome Ranma: Akane's fiancé. Frankly, Rin thinks he has a bit of an attitude problem, but she's not going to completely antagonize him, as he lives with the other two from his world. Rin wonders how exactly that works, though, as she has some idea about their complicated relationship(s).
Ryuuzaki Umi: Umi is a good friend, but sometimes Rin doesn't know what to make of her. Umi is younger, so Rin feels entitled to attribute her a "-chan" and also worries about her. On the other hand, she's also really powerful while having a penchant to get into trouble, so Rin sometimes thinks that Umi's gotta know what she can handle, but also likes to play the part of "the mature one" and berate her for her recklessness.
Huey Freeman: Little brother #2! Huey is all of ten years old, but very smart and mature for his age. Rin knows that and treats him with respect and friendliness, but still feels the need to butt in when Huey's protective older roommate suggests things like enrolling Huey in the police. Huey has already gotten into various trouble that was too big for him in the City, so Rin has reason to worry.
[GONE]
Ciel Phantomhive: Employer and maaaybe little brother #3. Another of those way too mature for his age, Rin treats him with respect as her employer and recognizes his high social standing. She has an inkling that there's something beneath that nearly adult demeanor of his and yes, she has noticed that he never talks about any parents, but she doesn't really know how to or if she even wants to address this. Still, nobility or not, employer or not, Rin sometimes thinks that he's still a twelve-year-old brat underneath, and sometimes, that may show through in her treatment of him.
[GONE]
Sebastian Michaelis: Ciel's faithful butler and Rin's superior at work. She thinks he's an overall nice person, but sometimes, he mystifies her or outright creeps her out. She knows about his tendency to not sleep, ever and thus has the distinct feeling that something is not quite as one may suspect here.
[GONE]
Tohno Shiki: Used to be another one of those people who just confuse Rin, and still kind of does. This is mostly due to his evident fun in teasing her with vague statements. This has left Rin wondering just where to put him for a long time, but she's gotten used to it and sees him as a friend now.
[GONE]
Tohno Akiha: Shiki's sister. Not always easily approachable, and the effects of some curse days on Akiha frightened Rin a tiny bit - however, Akiha is overall a nice person, and Rin sees her also as a friend.
Izumi Konata: A very resourceful friend who once helped Rin while she was possessed by Crowley and introduced Youko and her to video games. Rin likes her and is grateful to her.
Caspian X: A charming prince from a faraway land! No, really, he's a friend of Rin's, though she certainly does find him charming. Once totally carried her around on his horse when she lost her sense of direction due to a curse. She liked that.
[GONE]
Friar Carl: A scientist specializing on the not-so-normal! Rin respects him a great deal and thinks he is very intelligent. She takes interest in his opinions and findings, most importantly about the City and its nature.
Rosella of Daventry: A good friend of Rin's, with whom she often has lengthy discussions about everything from their different cultural backgrounds to What The City's Been Doing Now to gossip about other citizens. Rin gets along well with her; what they have in common is that they are both from the past and thus a sometimes feeling a little out of place in the City.
Yuuki Kurosu: A nice girl Rin occasionally talks to. They're not terribly close, but they get along well. Once took care of Rin when she was age reversed: thanks!
Shalimar Fox: Shalimar has also become somewhat of a friend to Rin. They talk sometimes over assorted things and find themselves agreeing often enough. Rin sort of looks up to her because she's an older woman and a good fighter.
Lockon Stratos: Another partner in crime when it comes to City-related investigations, and a friend. Rin knows he and his friends have more than once tried to initiate actual actions to be taken against the deities, and she respects them for that. She's known him for quite a while now.
Rip van Winkle: A strange woman whom Rin was on sort of friendly terms with, but then that whole murder thing happened. Prime example of how killing is fine, but killing and having fun doing it? Geez, that's just crossing the line.
NOTES
That Thing About Her Parents: Isn't something Rin will insist to absolutely bring up in every conversation ever, but also nothing she keeps especially secret, so when it does come up, she'll tell you about it, sometimes with a slight air of drama. Because she likes it.
Rin, Killing and You: Rin does not like killing. She thinks it's bad. This stands in heavy contrast not only with her revenge quest, but also with her tendency to hang out with killers. Manji is nicknamed the "Killer of a Hundred" in their homeworld, for chrissakes. She has no problem with this at all. So, killers of the City, you're good! Except if you're Shira or remotely like him, i.e. you eat puppies, rape women and kill children because you like it. Then she'll find you vile and disgusting.
