How frequent, exactly, are these strange happenings?

If you mean the curses, the most we tend to go without one is three or four days.

Wonderful. Just wonderful.

Thank you for telling me.

The reaction most give upon learning of the frequency of the curses. Not all are so bad... and I must confess, I am mostly accustomed to them now, save for the the ones that cause violence.

It's no problem.

So these curses can be very different in nature? And sometimes, people seem to be spared.

Does anyone know what causes them?

Yes, they can. Most affect people, changing their minds or bodies in some form... for example, I have been a woman, have been aged several decades, been made to relive t-the worst m-moment of my life, been unable to speak without spilling my thoughts and become a prince from a fairytale. There are some that affect the City as well; it became a desert kingdom once.

It... well, seem to be the deities, but others say that it's not. Who knows, really?

... well. I've seen some strange things, but definitely nothing like this place.

What? Have the people here been so bad that their gods need to punish them?

This is a place unlike any other. When you consider that there are people from many different realities, worlds and times here as well, it makes something that surely could not even be imagined by a living soul. People are pulled here without any say in the matter...

No... it is not like that. The deities here are not the Gods of any of its people. They just oversee it, I guess. How much control they actually have over the workings of the City is unknown, but they do hold great power.

... let me guess: no one knows why all of this happens, either.

People theorise, but in truth nobody has been able to confirm any of those theories. Unfortunately, gaining such knowledge is beyond the power of anyone here except the deities, and they never give a straight answer.

You have heard the ticking, correct? Some say it is counting down to the end of all worlds. That is one theory that I myself do not believe in.

... well, I certainly hope those people are in the wrong.

I heard a roommate or a pet might help against the ticking.

It is not a convincing theory, for many reasons.

Yes. A roommate tends to get rid of the ticking altogether while you are in their company. A pet will at least ease it.

For example?

I see.

It has no purpose, not for anybody, not even the deities. I cannot believe something with no purpose would be made to happen.

Maybe it's a purpose we don't understand.
