Favorite Kauai moment

Talking with my daughter Saturday night:

Me: "What was the favorite thing you did in Hawaii?"

munchikins "Hiking!"

I guess that will serve as a paternity test :) We spent about 1 hour on Tuesday on a nature loop "hiking". I really didn't think that would top her list - heck I'd almost forgotten it.

My personal favorite thing occured on Saturday while snorkeling on Ke'e beach. I had gone pretty far out over some pretty shallow coral (I have the scars to prove it :). Anyway, when I got past the shallow part I saw huge schools of fish and about a half dozen giant sea turtles. If I had been so inclined, I could have ridden the turtle express :) One of the turtles was about 6 feet long and I was able to just float a few feet away from it and watch it eat. Too cool.

It was also funny to see the Cookie Monster floatie try to drown my daughter in Hanelei Bay - funny after the fact anyway. Even though I knew she was perfectly safe because of all the adults around, one's heart stops when your daughter goes head first into 6 foot water.

All in all, the trip was an absolute blast even though we didn't get to do all the things I wanted to do. In part we were sabotaged by munchkins nap schedule but that's the price one pays for taking a 2.5 year old on vacation. She was amazingly adventerous for a 2.5 year old. Let's hear it for a week of quality time with the family and friends. What a long set of flights on either end though.
