Yeah, did the vocal session for the Revel Moon album last night. To begin with, let me say that I'm very happy that
irenejericho does most of the singing in the band. ;) But all in all, it went pretty well, I guess.
Legolish did a nice job with his harmony parts, didn't have to do as many retakes as I did, and his part on the end of 'Fire & Water' came out really nice. I had some bumps on 'Brick by Brick' as we changed what I was doing from a 'third to a fifth', whatever that means exactly. All I know is that I'm going more 'up' with the harmony part than before, and I'm going to take another swing at it when I go back in for the auxillary percussion pass.
'Fire & Water' was pretty interesting. For most of the song, I'm actually 'up' in my range, a unision part with BJ, although about an octave down from where he is. At the very end, I drop down much lower, probably another octave I'd assume, and we played around with how I'd been doing that. Kept hitting bumps on the very last word, which is held out for a while and is technically broken down into four separate notes, I believe. We were trying something new with this one as well, with me going up where everyone else is going down. After a couple unsuccesful takes at punching it in, I had BJ run out to the car and grab my tin of Altoids, popped one in my mouth, and tried again. First take was a vast improvement on hitting the notes, but I didn't hold it out long enough. But after a couple more tries, I finally nailed it, and I think the end turned out pretty well.
All in all, I think we did a pretty good job, though, and I've got to thank the gods of peppermint for that last little bit at the end. Meh, it's probably all in my head, but it worked, so that's all I care about.
Anyway, all that's now left is some wonderful harmony work from the amazing Ben Schuman, some final lead guitar passes from
idragosani , a final auxillary percussion pass from yours truly, and maybe a touch more harmony stuff here or there, and then the Revel Moon album will be completely recorded and ready to be mixed down. It's really getting exciting, as we're almost done! Yay!
