What is happening to writing?

THIS is the book and movie everyone is going crazy over?

"Who gets to ask the questions tomorrow?" I asked quizzically.
"I don't know," Edward retorted.
"Is it you?" I wondered musingly.
"I think I get to answer the questions tomorrow," he remarked cheekily.
"Oh really?" I huffed angrily.
"Oh yes!" he chortled naughtily. --Twilight by ( Read more... )

Never underestimate some adult women's poor taste in books...the romance section is HUGE and most would not be called the height of literature to say the least.

I just read Twilight myself (as a favor to GF-Unit) and I did think the writing was pretty simplistic and the story very unoriginal...but it wasn't horrible either. For me it was just blah. Actually, I thought it was funny that Bella fell for a guy that treated her like crap and ignored her the first half of the book...that actually seemed pretty accurate (ha ha).

I guess I really can't complain about a book to much if does get people reading. I don't think enough people read regularly and if it takes something like this to get someone reading, that would be a good thing. Hopefully their taste improves.

What annoys me are the people my age (mid 30s) who list Twilight/Harry Potter as their favorite books of all time. I am always like "Really? A book written for teens, that was released 10+ years after you were a teen is your favorite? You couldn't find anything else to connect with?" But I think that goes back to my point of the person not being someone who reads regularly.
