Start of Ann Arbor, year 6

Jul 09, 2017 15:39

So on Saturday AM I drove to Huntley, IL to visit my parents (about 4.5 hours). I wound up getting a late start because first I wanted to have brekkie with L and F, but F was at a sleepover. But I got on the road, got to the parents, and had dinner with them and Al, and then watched Inglorious Basterds with them.

Went to bed, and I couldn't sleep. I was depressed about Mom's dementia (No pretending that isn't what it is now. She fell asleep during the movie. Woke up and asked what tomorrow's plan was, when were she and Stan going home. Took a long time to make her understand she WAS home.) I was nervous about the Ann Arbor trip - not nervous - anxious. And so at about 12:30 AM I went to the bathroom. I was in my underwear and there was mom. "Are you going to the bathroom?" "Yes, and then I'll go right back to bed." And I realized she HAS a bathroom in her bedroom. And so I followed and she was opening the dryer. "Mom?" "I just have to find something, then I'm going to bed, I promise." So I went back to bed and tried to sleep and I hear her and pop talking about something in either the kitchen or laundry room, and then they went back to their room.

At 2 AM I realized I wasn't going to go to sleep - too much anxiety, too much sadness, too much coffee in the afternoon so I wouldn't sleep at the wheel. SO I packed up my stuff and left. (I did leave a short note.) Drove five hours to Ann Arbor. I'm staying at Karen's house. I arrived earlier than she and I had planned and she was still in town! So I got to hang out with her while she packed up her stuff - great times! And then I sat on my guest-bed and chilled for an hour, and then went to get breakfast/lunch (hippie hash at the Fleetwood Diner) and shopped at Kroger for brekkies and lunchies for the next couple of days, and snacks of course. And then (now) off to work. The office they gave me has no computer in it, which means I can't print. I specifically ASKED for an office with a computer, too, dammit. This happened last year as well. Takes days to get me up and running.

This day seems like it has lasted forever. All-nighters do that.
