summer update

So it’s been awhile. I seem to start these entries in a similar manner quite often:) Went to Maine this past weekend, for the annual trip to Camp Lacock, lol. Had a great time, as always. I was on firework duty and planned a trip to the wrong store, thus adding an hour or so to our trip. That was frustrating, but worth it, picked up about $250 worth of ordinance:) Jesus appeared to Nicki & I in the form of a friendly dude on an ATV who hauled our gear up the mountain for us. Friday night was spent setting up, hanging and eating. I always forget just how beautiful it is up on the mountain. No lights other than the tiki torches and campfire we have going, you can see so many stars. It’s wonderful

Saturday we fired Kage’s 9mm into some clay pigeons and a jug, which was scary but cool. I’d never fired a gun before, it’s a pretty thrilling experience. After that we all went to Frenchman’s, which is a waterfall at Sunday river that my crazy friends jump off of. I jumped once, that was good:) The river was cold but welcome in the warm August day. After we were all done relaxing in the rapids we headed to town to pick up some supplemental food & water and trekked back up the mountain.

Made a pretty good chicken & veggies in foil for dinner Saturday night. It was a recipe I found for last year and it was such a big hit that everyone wanted me to make it again, so I did. It came out just as good as last year, if I do say so myself!

I fired off the second half of the fireworks while dinner cooked over the open fire. Saved most of the big stuff for last, so it was a pretty good display. After dinner we all sat around the fire, telling tales of mythical creatures and odd experiences while Pokey, Shannon’s dog, whined at the darkness and made me think that zombies were stalking us.:)

Sunday was spent packing and driving. Nicki & I did stop at our favorite little Maine café and stock up on delicious, as has become our tradition the last few years. They make all their stuff from scratch and have some damn good gelato. Love that little café. Meanwhile, Dickie went to a place across the street called “Hot Taco” which is awesome. I just love the name.

The ride home wasn’t bad at all, thankfully. We stopped at our place to pick up some more clothes and young miss Lucy, then headed to my Uncle Tim’s to housesit for the week. Within thirty minutes of being there I got a call from my grammy asking me to give her a ride to the hospice if she gets a call that my great Uncle Moe was in his last moments and then I stepped on a hunk of glass. Stepping on glass took a minute to process, because I felt a sharp pain but when I looked at my foot all I saw was a weird red ribbon. After looking for a second I realized it was blood running down my foot. I yanked the hunk of glass out and cleaned & bandaged the wound. It hurt like hell! I’ve stepped on glass before, but not a big shard like this.

Grammy didn’t call Sunday night, and a good thing it was cuz I don’t know if I would have woken up when the phone rang, I was so tired. She did call last night, but not for a ride. She let me know that Uncle Moe passed away Monday morning. He’s going to be missed, he was always a great guy to me, the little I saw him. The Christmas lineup keeps getting smaller. Well, not really, it’s actually sort of a glimpse of the circle of life, to use a cliché. Folks pass on and leave an empty spot that a new child, girlfriend, wife etc come and fill in. Sort of odd to think about.

On a slight topic shift, wedding plans are going well. We sent out the invites Friday. They came out really nice, Nicki & I are very happy with them. We had a meeting with our DJ last Wednesday, which helped us establish music and order of certain things during the day. Less than two months to go!

Our wedding shower was fantastic! Nicki’s parents really went way over the top in putting together an amazing day for us. I’m trying to get pictures from everyone that took them and compile an online album; I’ll post it when I do.

Work is pretty bad lately. There’s people being laid off, threats to move the center, disciplinary action for having a high absence rate, even if it’s been doctor approved, such as breaking your shoulder and a newly instituted dress code, because morale wasn’t quite bad enough. I was hopeful for a new job as a video editor in Dedham, but by the time they’re ready to hire it’s probably not going to work out for me, sadly.

That’s all the news that’s fit to print for now.
