Muggy? It's practically October!

Sep 28, 2008 08:56

So i woke up this morning because it's muggy in the freakin apartment! Why is it muggy?! Grrrr, New England.
On the up side, as I lay in bed not being able to sleep due to discomfort, I thought "Hey, I haven't gone on LJ in awhile." So here I am.
We had Nicki's birthday party last month. It was a good time. It ended up being a smaller party instead of the usual "Holy August Birthdays, Batman!" party that is usually is due to some severe mix-ups and Chrish & Sue's party being the same day. It was kind of nice having a small party, I must say. I actually got to see most of the people that showed, which was nice. Still a few folks I didn't talk to as much as I would've liked, but all parties have that.

"She has that many presents?!"

Very serious, Amy.

Dickie opens his "eye-pod".

Nicki being a blow-hard. In the back you can see Katie & Dickie holding their birthday slices, too!

Awesome cake courtesy of Matt & Missie via The Cakery in Woonsocket.

Me feeding Dickie a candle.

These last two are actually at Nicki's parents' place after we went to Down City on Nicki's actual birthday.

Nicki models her hap'nin new boots:)
Nicki's parents are finally all moved in to their new house. That was the focus of last weekend for us, just helping them move all their crap. I lost track of how many trips we took, plus they were moving while we weren't there, plus they moved some Thursday and Friday, lus they hired professional movers! It was just so much crap! The new place is great, though and I'm very happy that they finally have their own place to call home.
We did try to inject some fall into last weekend, as well. On Saturday we went to the North Smithfield Great Pumpkin Festival. It's basically just a little fall fair in it's second year of running in NS. It's a fun little time, like Autumnfest, but less trashy.
Autumnfest is Woonsocket's fall arts & crafts festival, but every year it seems to be more chock full of cheap crap than cool crafts. Most of the people are there for the beer tent, I guess. It's still fun, but every year I spend a few hours there and am then very ready to leave:)
So we spent an hour or so at the pumpkin fest with Matt & Missie. Missie had gone with us last year, and wanted Matt to experience the pumpkin trebuchet (yes, that is as awesome as it sounds).
Sunday we went apple picking with Matt & Missie at Phantom Farms. Nicki had to work, so it turned into speed apple picking for the two of us. Buy a small bag and run around cramming as many apples into it as possible in five minutes. Go! Was a good time.
Spent this past week just sort of puttering around the house, putting up a few fall decorations and doing some organizing. We got this pissah sign on ebay to add to our Halloween collection. I'm hoping today I can get some kind of bracket to hang it over our side door somewhere.
I also got to do some photoshop work this week, which I desperately miss. I'm working on a secret project for Matt, which I'm nearly done, and I also created a piratey banner for my Obsidian Portal campaign website.
OP is sort of like a facebook but for geeky purposes. It lets people post all their stuff for the D&D (or other games) campaigns and have it all electronically stored and organized. It's pretty sweet, and I've been utilizing it a good deal for my 4th ed. D&D pirate game: Sea of Madness. Yes, I know I'm a huge nerd.
In other nerdly news, Project D&D 3000 is pretty close to bearing fruit. The projector is being analyzed by a local A/V store, who is gonna give me an estimate. Then I have to call FedEx (since it was apparently damaged during shipping and I had insurance) and have them pick it up, along with the estimate. They can then check it out themselves and (hopefully) pay to have it repaired. I'm hoping this hole thing isn't just a ploy on the sellers part to dump an unworking projector. If I end up eating $450 on this it would be wicked lame.
Today, since its another crappy rainy day, maybe we'll put up more Halloween decos. I want to get out and get a sign bracket as well. And maybe catch Ghost Town, that looks pretty darn funny.
Which reminds me: Lake Compounce, an awesome amusement park in Connecticut, apparently does a whole Halloween theme in October. I'm hoping to get a gang together to head up there some weekend, in case anyone that reads this would be interested. Lake Compounce is sort of like Six Flags, but it sucks much less. No huge lines, free soda all day, little bit cheaper. It's great! I'm not a huge amusement park guy, but we went with Nicki's friends this summer and I had a blast. It has some rides very similar to old Rocky Point rides, which I also thought was pretty sweet.
So that's that for that. Hope everyone enjoys their first week of October!
