Dude, I just found this on the Web...guess the public affairs staff wanted to spread the word about this successful operation. Go Joe! *****
NEWS RELEASE GEORGIA ARMY NATIONAL GUARD 48TH BRIGADE COMBAT TEAM
16 June 2005
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
48TH BCT SOLDIERS SUBDUE SUNFLOWER FIELD ACTING AS INSURGENT AREA OF OPERATIONS
FORWARD OPERATING BASE ST. MICHAEL, Iraq -- An artillery unit from the Georgia Army National Guard this week attacked and subdued a sunflower field that was a staging area for insurgent operations.
The sunflower field in question was suspected of aiding and abetting insurgent operations against FOB St. Michael on or about 12 June. After intelligence gathered two days after the attack showed connections between the field and the insurgent group, the 48th BCT command group ordered a surgical strike against the sunflowers and their territory.
The operation commenced on 14 June, and included multiple rounds from a 155mm Howitzer battery. No secondary explosions were observed, but the opposing force was not believed to be in possession of any explosive material at time of attack.
The sunflower field suffered massive casulties, with an estimated 90 percent of the unit being neutralized in a matter of minutes. The 48th BCT artillery unit suffered only minor injuries from picking the remnants of sunflower seeds from their teeth. *******
Well, actually, it was a product of my slightly twisted sense of humor as a public information officer. I looked up the format for other Army press releases on the CentCom site. Guess I nailed it...
You should have seen some of the fake news articles I used to write with my friend Anthony a few years back. Some funny shit.
ya got me hehe...I was trying to figure how even a spoof news group woulda caught wind of the "sunflower salvo" episode...man, we're being run by a bunch of fucktards (my conjunctive noun for fucking retards (not that I have anything against real tards)).
