Rotersand, Client and Covenant yesterday - *checks watch* - make that Thursday night.
The show was a lot of work - thankfully the tour crew were pros who knew their stuff. Lots of stuff to load out, put up, and then take down and load in again after the show. However, I think it was worth it.
Rotersand were quite cool, have to listen to more of their stuff. Sadly,
stellalive wasn't with them :(
Client were hot. I mean, HOT. Still, it seemed I was the only person around who really liked them. I love their music, which is best described as a synthpop-electroclash-Anne Clark-mashup. And Client B is TEH HOTNESS.
Finally, Covenant. Their act opened with 20 Hz, which got a really lukewarm reception, Spindrift failed to make an impression too - mainly because Eskil looked like he was going to fall asleep on his feet any minute. It took the first measure of Bullet to wake the audience from their lethargy. After that, everything improved: Eskil got a lot more active, Joakim was very professional (as always), and Clas - well, okay, so Clas didn't improve. He kept hopping around on stage doing some weird dancing shit instead of at least pretending to play his keyboards. So I have mixed feelings about the show. Too much playback, not enough live playing - and Eskil kept fucking up the lyrics.
They played a lot of stuff from the upcoming album - always a risk as the audience isn't familiar with the new tracks - and the selection was far from perfect. I mean, seriously - who the fuck had the idea to perform Happy Man? The song is teh suck anyway, and it certainly does not make sense as an encore. Also, why they didn't they play Pulse is beyond me, as IMO it's the best song on Skyshaper.
Lots of fun were had after the show (it so happened that Friday was Client E's birthday, so she was presented with a cake and champagne on stage during the Covenant encore). Clas was insane, Joakim threw snowballs into the backstage area, Eskil spun some tracks on the backstage audio rack. The high point though was the tour backliner ranting about the one time he made the mistake of working for Apoptygma Berzerk. Man, and I thought I had a beef with those fuckers.
Lots of work, lots of stress, but fun too. Selected pictures will probably be posted tomorrow or Sunday.
