Merkel: "So, now that we all agree the dust has settled on those top secret CIA flights and the illegal prison camps scattered throughout Europe..."
Rice: "Shut up bitch."
Merkel: "Certainly, sir. Anyway, now that that's settled, there's still this small matter of an innocent citizen of my country who was illegally abducted to Afghanistan, held incommunicado without due process and probably tortured by your services..."
Rice: "It was a necessary element of our God-given mission to bring freedom to the world. You Krauts have an expression for this: Wo gehobelt wird, fallen Späne. So stop complaining. You think we could have freed you from Hitler without using methods of questionable legality every once in a while?"
Merkel: *rolls over and does a great Blairesque lapdog imitation*
Now, I don't necessarily believe Schröder would have handled this any better - especially seeing how his minister of the interior, Otto Schily, knew about the case all along and refused to go public with it. I just feel angry and betrayed. It's kinda saddening to see that Germany still is the doormat of the world. Then again, I guess I've grown too cynical to feel sad over shit like that. After all, I told people even while the 2+4 accords were being signed that these wouldn't make Germany a truly sovereign nation, either.
