Band Takes A Stand
I've never heard of Switchfoot until today so I have no idea what kind of music they make and whether they're any good. I do, however, applaud the message the band posted on Sony Music's forums today. Dismayed by the fact that Sony released their newest album with copy protection on the CD against the express wishes of the artists, the band shares information on how to defeat Sony's asinine DRM.
I wish more musicians would reach out to their fans in that way and take a more active stand against the major labels' ridiculous DRM policies. Copy protection does not prevent piracy - its only effect is being an annoying hassle to legal customers.
