Everything is due this week; graduation hangs in the balance. I have decided that the Lutherans are working me too hard this final year of grad school. I've been denied the right to choose whether or not to have senioritis (you could say that my will is bound ... Lutheran joke ... not as good as Sean's.)
This conversation took place last night, as I cradled the Book of Concord in my lap.
Annie: For a Lutheran school, they are awfully big on works.
Sean: I guess salvation is a gift, but graduation isn't.
That is the best Lutheran theology joke I've heard in a long time ... I am very proud.
In the midst of the works righteousness of cramming for exams and writing paper, there is still grace. Sean makes turkey burgers and fried mushrooms, rubs my shoulders and doesn't judge me when I take a study break to watch a rerun of Scrubs I've seen a million times (ummm, make that 2 reruns of Scrubs per night.) My niece Bella instant messages and reminds me that there is so much life and family and fun to look forward to after this week. My mom calls to make sure I'm alive and gives me new life and energy with just her voice. And did I mention the fried mushrooms?
Grace and peace to you, whatever works you're wrapped up in these days.
