To live like you were dying...

For years I have hated this song without really knowing why.  In the last few days, I think I may have finally put my finger on it.  The lyrics give a small amount of lip service to being a better friend and husband but mostly chant the same self serving chorus; Live for Yourself.  To all you folks out there contemplating your own personal 'bucket' lists, what about everyone else?  When confronted finally with your own mortality, can you think of anyone but yourself and your little personal pleasures?

We are all born with a death sentence hanging like the sword of Damocles over our heads.  Yet, rather than thinking about how we could make our world better for future generations, we dream about climbing mountains and skydiving, thrill and pleasure seeking.  My fellow Slackers, it's time to put down the Extreme and the Self Aggrandizing for the betterment of our Generation, our world and the Generations to come.  It's time to think about the next quarter century, not just the next quarter.

To live like you were dying.  Would you spend more time with your kids?  Go to their school more often?  Volunteer more?  Give away all that you can't take with you?  Forgive everyone and forget everything you ever said you hated?

Or do you just want to ride the Bull?

death, bucket, living
