man, being sick really stinks.
it's almost gone though!
anyways, i'm bored right now and i don't really have anything to say aside that ashley- i really appreciate that you've been trying to take care of me even though you've been really stressed and busy with school. thank you love...
well, like i said i'm bored. so i'm going to give you guys a nice long list of what i've got on my playlist right now in iTunes, and i want you to let me know what you think of these bands (if anything at all)
the cinematic orchestra (UK)- experimental free form jazz music. also includes a producer and turntablist.
sigur ros (iceland)- this is what happens when you take life's greatest moments and turn them into music. it's THAT good. their second OFFICIAL release, titled ( ), is sung the entire time using the same six lines in a made up language!
mogwai (scotland)- like sigur ros, but with glasgow influence.
mum (iceland)- another amazing band from iceland. they remind me a lot of i am robot and proud (the japanese electronic group, not imarobot). apparently their second release is better, though i have yet to hear it.
rovo (japan)- side members of the boredoms combine to create, what is possibly the most talented post-rock band i have ever heard. the entire cd is one 45 minute track that was done in one shot, and uses instruments ranging from a cello to a dijurido to a saxophone. lot's of cool space sounding noises and drum solos.
u- zip (UK?) this guy used to produce with aphex twin, now he just does some really good solo production stuff. he recently did a remix for mogwai on their "kicking a dead pig" album.
phoenix (france)- the first time i heard them was when i saw lost in translation, and that scene is also my most memorable because of that track. pick up the album "united". it goes from party-like anthems to old soul style r&b to just really good daft punk-like dance music.
thee michelle gun elephant (japan)- yeah, there's like a ton of bands out there who are trying to revive rock & roll, but this band does it a MILLION times better than all of them. honorable mention goes to guitar wolf (japan also).
eastern youth (japan)- everyone in america's seen them because they play here a lot, but what most people don't know is that they used to be a skinhead oi\punk band! their new stuff is so much better though.
robert rich (US)- imagine what it would be like if you were floating in space. or you had somehow got caught in that empty void in time where nothing exists... this is what it would sound like. same also goes for brian lustmord and metalbeast.
gold chains (US) - gold chains hails from san francisco and has a rat tail. he produces really avante-guarde hip-hop and is one of the coolest guys i've ever drank with. his real name is tofer!
fannypack (US) - miami booty bass done new york hipster style. these girls have the best lyrics ever.
the loop junction (japan)- my friend tomo, this is his old roomates band. they are jazzy hip hop done with all live instruments. drums, bass, keyboard, guitar and mc. really good stuff.
the plot to blow up the eiffel tower (US)- i guess they've been around for a while... i'm not sure. really good dc-style indie. in the same vein as fugazi or q and not u, but they use a saxophone too.
david sylvian (UK)- he's been around forever. he used to front for the 80's pop group japan. his vocals are amazing- sounds a lot like martin gore from depeche mode. music is very relaxing and puts you in a nice romantic mood. amoeba put his newest album in their 2003 must-haves!
godspeed you black emperor (canada)- the best thing to come from canada since strange brew! 13 piece band from the great north that makes you want to produce a movie just so you can have them write the score.
that's all for now. i have all of those cd's if anyone can't find some of them and wants to check 'em out. let me know what you guys think!
