SDCC 2013: Saturday/Sunday

Jul 13, 2013 13:52

Saturday:

At 10AM in Room 2, there's a panel on writing a superhero novel, but at the same time in Room 25ABC, there's an urban fantasy panel that has a lot more speakers and Yebisu will probably want to attend.

At noon, there's a very tempting panel entitled, "A Feast for Your Eyes: Creativity in Comics and Cuisine" in Room 7AB, although I have no idea who the people are who are involved in it; could be awesome, or could be a colossal waste of time, who knows??

At 1PM in Room 23ABC, there's the 25th anniversary of "The Tick" panel, and given that the Tick was one of my very first superheroes, I'm feeling almost obligated to attend. ;)

And then, at 2:30 in Room 8, there's one of my MUST DO's: "The Adventure Time Encyclopedia Panel: A conversation moderated by Kent Osborne (head of story, Adventure Time) with Martin Olson (voice actor, The Lord of Evil), and Olivia Olson (voice actor, Marceline The Vampire Queen) about their new book from Abrams, The Adventure Time Encyclopedia, including a slide show and a dramatic reading from the book. Surprises may include a terrifying appearance by Hunson Abadeer himself, a music video from the Nightosphere, and Olivia singing with special surprise guests. Audience participation is encouraged for maximum chance of survival!" :D (Sadly, I'm going to miss the Hellboy 20th Anniversary panel because of this, but since I probably won't get the Adventure Time panel the day before, this is the best compromise I can work out.) It's also followed by the Adventure Time comic book panel in the same place, so I will probably be there for that, too.

And... if I'm still standing by the end of this, I may try for: "Robbie Robbins, (IDW SVP/graphic artist), Keith Wood (Oni Press art director), Fawn Lau (VIZ graphic designer), Christopher Ross (Top Shelf director of digital publishing and book designer), and cartoonist/designer Matt Kindt (Mind MGMT) present a roundtable discussion about the shifting trends in graphic novel book design and the industry movement toward books as art objects. Moderated by Oni Press editor-in-chief and hopeless graphic design snob James Lucas Jones, in Room 4, at 5:00.

Sunday is usually the day where I have lofty goals about doing things, and then end up just sitting around and taking photos because I'm exhausted. However, goal-setting is what I'm all about! ;)

At 11:15 in Room 5, there's the "Women of Marvel" panel I'm always thinking of attending, but never do. Maybe this should be the year? BUT at 11:30 in Room 8, Faith Erin Hicks is talking to Jeff Smith about their upcoming collaboration, and that could be fabulous, too!

And then at 2:00 in Room 24ABC, there's a author panel about the supernatural creatures of urban and modern fantasy, which sounds like it could be pretty interesting as well.
